What Parents Need to Know

About A Cinderella Story

Parents need to know that there are some tense and sad moments, including the (off-camera) death of Sam's father and emotional abuse by Fiona. The movie has some mild schoolyard language, brief potty humor, a comic scuffle, a joke about eating disorders and a somewhat casual attitude about cheating in school. There is a sweet kiss. A strength of the movie is the portrayal of loving and loyal relationships between diverse people.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about what made it possible for Sam to hold on to her dreams and her self-respect despite Fiona's efforts to destroy them both. What was it about Sam that made her step-mother and step-sisters feel so threatened? Families could talk about the importance of really looking at people and really listening to them, and about the importance of being willing to let others see you as you really are (which requires knowing yourself very well, too).

    My favorite romance.

This is definately my favorite movie. It's very touching and gives a good message. To me it seems like it wouldn't be a good movie for kids 6 and under, since it's more of a romance. It doesn't have lots of good role models except for the main character, because there are some mean girls that give her a hard time.

    Good for the family

This is a great family movie good for everyone in the family. There are some bad influences with some mean girls but otherwise there is nothing parents have to worry about.

    Wonderful Movie!

I love this movie and so does my 6 year old sister. We watch it every time we go on vacation. My older brother hates the movie though but he is a boy and i sorta expected it. This movie is appropriate at all times and is very funny at some parts.

    Very cute

I thought this movie was very cute, and there wasn't anything partucularly wrong with it. I think that it was a good message for girls; a much better message than the typical princess story, anyway, where the girl waits at home doing nothing until her prince shows up. Sam did something about her situations by the end, and was a relatively good role model for younger girls.

    Very fun, good message!

I really liked this movie, because it wasn't to predictable. The actors/actresses did a good job and I think it was very well written and funny. FIVE STARS!

    Blah, blah, 'whatever', chick flick.

Yes, this is a chick flick. I watched it with my sister, and want to say its one of the better chick flicks there are, but that's not saying much. I'm writing this from a boy's point of view, you should note, so don't read this is you want a girl's review. Its basically a remake of cinderella with a teenager touch. Theres some kissing, but nothing much more than that for sexual content. There a teeny tiny bit of mild swearing. Nearly all the girls in this movie except the main character are mean, snotty, pretty barbie dolls who bully Sam(the girl) a lot. Sam also seems very intimidated by her stupid stepmother. Its pretty corny and also a little bit predictable. Any girl in the double digits will love it, and even those below that age range. Its fine for kids, but blah for anybody else.
