What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Jones is the typical American anti-hero, a self-interested scoundrel who isn't always a great role model, but whose heart proves to be in the right place.
  • Violence:

Hand-to-hand combat, action-filled chases and gun fights. Jones Sr. is shot at point blank range and almost bleeds to death.
  • Sex:

It's insinuated that Indiana and his father had relations with the same woman.
  • Language:

    Light swearing.
  • Consumerism:

Part of a series that spun-off many products and a ride at Disneyland.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

More on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

What’s the Story?

It's 1912 and young Indiana Jones (River Phoenix) risks his life to save Coronado's Cross. But his father (Sean Connery) is not impressed. We jump to 1938 and Indie (Harrison Ford) discovers that his father has vanished while searching for the coveted Holy Grail. Off to Venice, where Indy is followed by a secret brotherhood dedicated to maintaining the secret of the Grail. Indy finds his father, but Nazis kidnap them both. They escape to Berlin to find a missing diary and (literally) run into Hitler. After fleeing an airship and engaging in a dogfight, father and son head to the desert to beat the Nazis to the Grail. After a remarkable chase with a tank, Indy's dad is shot and Indy must get to the Grail in order to save his father's life.

Is It Any Good?

The chemistry between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery is fun to watch. Both actors have impeccable timing and are obviously enjoying themselves. While some of Indy's previous sidekicks were annoying, Connery's character is a worthy companion and foil. Since father and son have a past, you care about their relationship.

This installment also includes the return Indiana Jones' milder mannered side -- a hero who can be tremendously awkward when not battling bad guys or untangling ancient mysteries. Much of the movie's success is due to a tongue-in-cheek attitude that begins when young Indy -- played by an intense River Phoenix -- can't find the rest of his Scout troop and loudly declares that "everyone is lost but me." Ahh, that's the Indiana Jones we know and love.

This movie shouldn't be marketed at kids. There's a lot of blood and gore, and the big finale includes decapitation. Not for kids, but good for teens.

Sigh. Great series ruined by this awful third blunder. Bad storyline with little to no excitement. A chore to watch.

One of my favorite movies to watch as a kid.

I really loved the action in this movie - it was entertaining without being gratuitous and mindless. This happened to be one of the few movies that could hold most of my attention at four/five/six.

Not at all violent or scary

This movie is defiantly the least violent of all of the Indy movies. I can't even believe it was rated PG-13.

    A classic, fun movie.

Hilarious play between Indy and his father. Very funny movie. Little suggestive comments here and there. One full exclamation of Christ name. Towards the end, some gore is shown. A severed head, and a gorey transformation as a man goes from young to old to dead to dust. That is all I can remember. This is a great adventure!

    very good

indiana jones 3 is ok for 8 year olds maybe. there is one part where indy's father gets shot and there is blood in that part but there is another part when a head rolls down a slanted walkway but that part dosn't have any blood and when the person turns into a skeleton might scare some kids.

    WOW

I have to say that this was my second favorite Indiana Jones movie. One was my favorite. This one was funnier, though, but I liked the action in one better. Still a little swearing in this movie, violence includes shooting, a beheading (in which you see the head roll across the ground), a pool of blood on a man's hand, as well as seeing a bullet wound. It is insinuated that Indy's dad slept with a woman (who was probably thirty years younger), and Indy was her next victim (no sex even implied, nothing happened but kissing). I highly recommend this movie.

    Great! Best of the Trilogy!

The Last Crusade is one of my favorite movies, and the best Indiana Jones film. There is quite a bit of violence and some sexual references that will probably go over the heads of kids under 10. Good for kids 10+

    Asecond best in the trilogy

The first is the best, then this then the second but they're all very good and this one provides excellent entertainment.
