What Parents Need to Know

This review of Twitches was written by Maria Llull

Parents need to know that this movie contains mildly scary moments in which a vague, smoky darkness threatens the main characters and causes small fires. The loss of two parents (which happened before the main action of the movie takes place) causes some sadness. A couple of characters display vapid, Valley girl-type behavior.

  • Families can talk about what it would be like to find a long-lost twin or sibling. Do you think your personalities would be similar even if you weren't raised together? Families can also talk about what they would do if they suddenly found out they had magic powers. Would you use your powers to help other people or to help yourself -- or both? Do you think they would make you braver, like Harry Potter?

More on Twitches

What’s the Story?

Based on the book series by the same name, TWITCHES is about twin girls who are separated at birth and adopted. On their 21st birthday, the girls, Alex (Tia Mowry) and Camryn (Tamera Mowry), run into each other and realize that not only are they twins, but they're also princesses from another dimension, called Coventry. But that's not all. They have magic powers, which they'll need to practice in order to save Coventry from the evil clutches of something called "the darkness."

Is It Any Good?

The Mowry sisters, twins in real life and former stars of the Disney Channel show Sister, Sister, seem very comfortable working together, and each allows the other to have the limelight at the right moments. They seem to be enjoying themselves, and it's fun to watch them discover that they're sisters.

Twitches is tailor-made for the tween and teen age groups, though younger kids may also enjoy it. This is a Disney made-for-TV movie, so nothing heavy or particularly iffy happens, though there are sad moments as the girls each come to terms with the parents they've lost. The scary moments might be a bit much for little kids, but the frequent references to shopping might be what put parents on alert. Why do movies so frequently paint young girls (and women in general) as shopaholics?

    Fine for the whole family!

There is a kinda scary part for some little kids. There is a fight, but not a fist one. But all and all, I think it's really good, other than the witchcraft.

    Little bit scary

Kids under 8 will be scared because of the darkness that is trying to get the twin witches. (twitches) Some good humorous parts.

    Entertaining.....

This is a very good movie! It has funny parts and emotional parts and it is very suspenceful. I just saw this movie on Disney's Octoberfest thing and wasn't expecting to much but this movie just blew me away! What are you doing reading my review? Go watch it now!

    READ THE BOOKS!

This television movie does not even deserve to carry the name "twitches!" The books are called "T*Witches" and the only thing that those two have in common is that some of the characters share similar names! Read the books and you'll see that Thanatos was NOT really that much of a villain, that Karsh and Ileana were not in love with each other, that the twins were much younger when they met, and that coventry was not in a different dimension. Please, please read the books- they're more of a story than this ramshackle chainsaw job could ever be.

    O.K.

Twitches the movie was ok but i thought there was too much fantasy and magic in it. There is things in the movie that are so fake that it is kinda not appropriate for this age group. Overall i thought it was pretty good but they didn't have to put so much fantasy and magic in it ... if you dont like that kind of thing.
