This movie is one of the best kid's movies Ive ever seen. Kiki is a great role model for all children and she learns how to work things out on her own. She is resouceful and helpful to others, one of the best role models ever.

What Parents Need to Know
This review of Kiki's Delivery Service was written by Brian Camp
Parents need to know that this film shows a 13-year-old girl coming of age and coping with the accompanying loss of self-esteem (in this case magical powers). She has much support and weathers the transition well, however.
Families Can Talk About
- Families can talk about Kiki's character. How does she compare to other characters in animated movies? What -- or who -- helps her come to terms with her loss?
More on Kiki's Delivery Service
What’s the Story?
Kiki (voiced by Kirsten Dunst) follows family tradition and settles for a year in a foreign city to serve as resident witch. She makes friends, finds room and board, and uses her broom-flying ability to launch a delivery service. A boy her age, the aviation buff Tombo (Matthew Laurence), develops a crush on her. As she approaches puberty, Kiki begins to lose her powers. She strikes up a chance friendship with an older girl, the artist Ursula (Janeane Garofalo), who helps Kiki weather her loss of confidence. When a dirigible accident puts Tombo in danger, Kiki must summon up all of her powers to save her friend.
Is It Any Good?
A huge box office hit in Japan, KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE is the first film by celebrated animator Hayao Miyazaki to become available in the U.S.; it's part of a deal struck between Disney and Miyazaki's studio. Kiki is set in a large European metropolis (an amalgam of Stockholm and other cities) in a time period suggesting the 1950s. The attention to detail, particularly in the scenes of Kiki flying over the city streets, rivals that of many a bigger-budgeted Disney feature. Such detail provides important background as small-town girl Kiki gradually acclimates herself to this new, bewildering environment. The film also realistically treats Kiki's growing pains, as she copes with the twin problems of independence and peer group relations. This accounts, in part, for the film's enthusiastic reception by so many young viewers.
This English-dubbed version, released straight-to-video, benefits from well-cast celebrity voices, including Phil Hartman (as Kiki's wisecracking black cat Jiji) and Debbie Reynolds. The Disney version's only serious flaw is the replacement of the Japanese original's delightful opening and closing songs with new, less catchy English-language ones.

Amazing Movie!!!! It was something I think that the whole family will love. I think that it supplies man possitive messages and has good role models, while still having parts that kept me laughing, especially Jiji's personality, and how he is so sarcastic. Tombo is also very funny as well. It encourages people of all ages to look deep inside themselves to truly understand who they are. Had me hooked from the first 15 minutes. I think this is a must see for anyone who loves an intersting story. I wouls also reccomend all of Hayoa Miyazaki's other films, including Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, and others you can find by googling his name or googling STudio Ghibli, which has his works, and also other wonderful works. Also, for Princess Mononoke, one if Miyazaki's films, you might want to wait a few years if you are'nt okay with some blood, and a few cuss word, though not many at all. Saying this, I very highly recommend it for mature 8 and 9 year olds, because the sooner they cn see this breathtaking film, the better. Princess Mononoke is great film that highlights the importance of peace between man and nature, and has beautiful artwork, just the same as miyazaki's other creations. My neighbor Totoro is another great film for younger children, yet can be enjoyed by peopl of all ages. As for the rest, maybe you'll just have to try em out! :) Hope you enjoy them, because I sure did. Oh, and also, these films are not anything like you would think for people who have not watched them. They aren't pokemon and yugio, oh no, they are better than some of the movies seen in theatre's today, and usually give better messages and role models. OH!!! And also, once you can get ahold of Ponyo, you must share it with your children!! It is absolutely wonderful, and is Miyazaki's latest film! Hope you enjoy all of theses films!!

Perfect For Almost All Ages
A very good movie! A perfect family movie! Kiki is a role model because she is kind and caring to almost everyone she meets. There is a very good and educational message in there that says, "be true to yourself."

Overall a great movie, with some small concerns.
Very good movie and enjoy it immensly. However, let me start with the negative. The parents allow their 13 year old to live alone without any parental supervision. That might be a concern. Also Kiki has several mishaps and almost injures herself several times. One of her friends almost dies hanging onto a rope. One the plus side, she is honest, resourceful and usually kind. She also helps an elderly woman. Overall a good movie but you need to know your kids depending on the level they can take.

Great movie for all!
I love this movie, all of Miyazaki's movies actually, but this on and Totoro are far and away the best for little kids. Much MUCH more friendly for little ones than most Disney films even - and Kiki is a better role model as well. She's smart, capable, warm and is drawn like a normal young girl. It will be one of the first movies that my daughter gets to watch. Oh - and Phil Hartman did the voice of her cat in the English version I think - very good!

No villains, no evilness, no inappropriate scenes, and no violence. It's just extraordinary characters trying to live despite limitations, both outer and inner. Just what animation should be.

Not that exciting...
Like all of Miyazaki's films, the art-work is incredible. However, this is Miyazak's first girl film, so I found it boring.

Great movie!
I love Hayo's films...and this is yet another of one of his classics! I felt comfortable with this movie to let younger children watch it at a party...no real objectionable material, no scary stuff (yes, she's a witch, but there's no occult magic), just harmless fun with a solid moral about the coming of age. Timeless.
