Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 15–18

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Women are at the center of all of Eminem's verbal jabs on this single. The rapper discusses female body parts, tries to seduce his subjects, and talks about sexual senarios at length.
  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

Eminem discusses Kim Kardashian's derriere, Jessica Alba's breasts, and the idea of sleeping with Sarah Palin. The music video for the single includes crude visuals that bring the lyrics to life.
  • Language:

No profanity, but plenty of eyebrow-raising lines, like "I'll invite Sarah Palin out to dinner then nail her, 'Baby say hello to my little friend'."
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

On the single, Eminem gives shout-outs to over-the-counter and perscriptions drugs, everything from Ritalin to Zantac.

What Parents Need to Know

This review of "We Made You" (CD single) was written by Jacqueline Rupp

Parents need to know that even though this is one Eminem song that surprisingly doesn't contain profanity, it's still not appropriate for kids. With crass comments about women's body parts, sarcastic quips regarding homosexuality, and various references to prescription drugs, this is vintage Eminem.

Families Can Talk About

Talk to your kids about the media in their life. We have more tools and tips that can help
  • Families can talk about how rap music as a genre addresses social and pop culture issues. On this single, Eminem makes illusions to numerous celebrities and pop culture icons. Do you think this type of satirical approach casts some doubt on the validity of fame? Do you look at celebrities like Sarah Palin and Jessica Simpson differently after hearing them referenced in a song which doesn't portray them very favorably?

More on "We Made You" (CD single)

What’s the Story?

Eminem's ode to reality stars and pseudo-celebrities, WE MADE YOU covers all the famous faces usually found on the tabloid pages. Eminem focuses only on the ladies on this single, asking Lindsay Lohan and Portia de Rossi why they became lesbians and attempting to lyrically seduce everyone from Britney Spears to vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin. The single is the second off of Em's latest album, Relapse.

Is It Any Good?

There is no shortage of cultural fodder for Eminem to take on in his satirical single, "We Made You." However, the usually on-target lyricist seems a bit off his game on this single. Sure there are some clever moments, like the Amy Winehouse reference: "You're my Amy, I'm your Blake, matter fact make me a birthday cake, with a saw blade in it to make my jail break." But other such name-dropping of celebs like John Mayer, Britney Spears , and Sarah Palin, falls flat and Slim Shady skips some prime opportunities to slam celebrity and status.

Basically Just A Random Song About Random Celebrities/Ex-Celebrities

It is about celebrities and sexual content. So basically its a lot of nonsense. The only thing that concerns me is the part about taking sarah palin out to dinner and "nailing" her after dinner

This song talks very explicitly about sex (big surprise). the absense of profanity does not make it any more okay for youth to hear

    Really..... Inappropriate.... Song.... (PERIOD)

We Made You is Eminem at his worst & best at the same time. The video illustrates the lyrics which many songs fail to do, so I have to praise that. But they're isn't anything to praise about the content. I guess that's enough to say because the rest is implied, just listen to the song.
