What Parents Need to Know

This review of Ghost Hunters was written by Lucy Maher

Parents need to know that because each episode follows a group of investigators examining paranormal events, younger viewers might be frightened by the potential presence of ghosts and spirits in homes and businesses.

  • Families can talk about the paranormal. Do you believe in ghosts? How else can you explain the events investigated on the show? Does the show scare you? Another discussion topic could be the technology the investigators use to determine whether spirits are responsible for the strange noises and occurrences. How can you become this type of investigator? What's involved in the job?

More on Ghost Hunters

What’s the Story?

In the SciFi channel's sometimes-spooky reality show GHOST HUNTERS, a team of investigators looks into hauntings and other paranormal happenings. By day, Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson are plumbers who work for Roto-Rooter in New England. But on their off-time, the pair -- founders of TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) -- leads a group of investigators that specializes in getting to the bottom of strange incidences.

Is It Any Good?

Hawes and Wilson investigate everything from a ghost named George who terrorizes a young family, to an inn that's reportedly haunted by the ghost of a bride who died there on her wedding day. Viewers follow the team as they interview the client, gather evidence, and present their conclusions.

Ghost Hunters will appeal to sci-fi enthusiasts, but although the producers heighten the drama with expert editing, the show might disappoint non-believers. Young or particularly sensitive viewers might also be frightened by some of the subject material, but other than that (and a few bleeped swear words), there's little for parents to be concerned about. For the most part Ghost Hunters is an entertaining hour suitable for tweens and up.

    • My concerns are:
    • Negative message
    • Negative role models

    Predictable show.

Stupid show, obviously fake if you think about it. By the way, I hope people realise that it takes hours of meditation to even feel a connection between you and the spirits of others. Plus the ACTORS 'act' as if every sound is a ghost. 'OMG DO YOU GUYS FEEL THAT COLD FEELING?!!?' Me: No.

i think this is ok for 8 and up because its just people trying to find(ghosts)

    Ghost Hunters

I wouldn't say I hate this show, but it's just really boring. The actors put no energy into what they do (most of the time their just sitting down, standing in one place, or if they do hear something they barley ever make effort to figure out what is was). If the cast of this show had the spunk and dedication like the cast of Ghost Adventures does, it would probably be a more interesting show to watch. But until then im giving it a 1.

    • My highlights are:
    • Positive messages
    • Good role models

    Perfect for the whole family!

We love this show! Never miss it! This group goes into each hunt not believing there is paranormal activity. It's helped my son to debunk and see that there are causes to some of the things he thinks are paranormal. This has allowed him to not be as afraid of the dark.
