Parents need to know that this is a safe and fun web destination with a huge range of interesting activities, from art to games to cooking to crafts. • Families can talk about what their daughters want to be when they grow up, and whether the site makes them feel like they can be a success in life. The site emphasizes writing and the possibility of being published in a book. Does that make you want to do creative writing on your own time? How do you feel about chatting with friends or playing them online, as opposed to visiting them in real life. Does it make you feel like you could say or do things you wouldn't do in real life? Or do you treat your friends the same online as you do when you're face to face?

More on Miss O and Friends

What’s the Story?

Started in 2005 by a teenager named Juliette Brindak, MISS O AND FRIENDS uses a multicultural group of real-life friends as muses and inspiration for its offerings, which encourage creativity, curiosity, and a positive outlook on life. Designed for tween girls ages 8 and up, the content finds a good balance between classic girl stuff like dress up and jewelry games and more constructive things -- practicing calligraphy, creating recipes, and even writing stories and poetry -- which users can submit for consideration for the Miss O and Friends books (sold at national bookstore chains). The site recently introduced a new section for Club Plus members called Miss O My Way, which lets girls create music playlists, play multiplayer games, chat with friends, ask for advice, and more.

Is It Any Good?

With so much to offer -- and such a finicky audience -- Miss O's presentation and site navigation is entertaining, organized and well-considered. The site's voice and tone is also commendable for its ability to talk to its audience without condescending or feeling snobby or clubby. The fun voice is consistent across the board, from its headlines to user instructions -- even its recipes (heaven on a waffle, for instance) all sound like they came from Miss O's mouth.

The site's tagline, "By girls, for girls" plays out in the effort Miss O and Friends makes to solicit feedback from its users. It also incorporates parental involvement and support. For example, in the chart listing the various levels of membership, each feature offered at each level is clearly marked – so there are no surprises. Parental approval is required for story submission, too. Screening and moderating of comments is pretty scrupulous, allowing the overall experience of Miss O to be positive, healthy, fun, entertaining – and a little educational, too.

    Girls Will Adore

An adorable website perfect for schoolage girls. I can guarantee that if Miss O existed when I was younger, I'd be on it everyday. There are fun games to play (although they can be challenging for younger kids), contests to enter (with fun prizes!), and links to Miss O stories and books. The only thing that is difficult is that kids send in questions for the crossword puzzles and such, and many don't make sense or are misspelled. Nevertheless, the website is practically flawless and great for girls!

    Great website for girls

missoandfriends.com is a great website for girls. it has a helpful advice column run by one of the site creators and fun contests where you can post your artwork and writing. parents should know that Miss O and Friends merchandise is avaliable on the site, but it is not possible to buy anything without a credit card. girls of ages 8-14 should consider joining!

    one problem

I love missoandfriends.com, but the only thing I dont like is the quizes. I mean no one wants to hear that theyre not a good friend or they dont believe in they theyreself! They results should make the kids feel happy! NOT SAYING YOU SHOULD LIE TO THEM!!!! Find stuff where you can make a truthfull quiz that makes them feel good about themselves!!!!!!!!!!!

    Beware of Personality Quizes

Although the games are very age appropriate for 10 yr olds (even on the challenging modes), the language and social situations described in different personality quizzes suggests that the quizzes are for an older age group, such as 15 or older. Questions included many boyfriend references, and even used vulgar language (pissed) to describe an emotion. Short of participating in all of the quizzes to monitor the content, I would just steer my daughter clear of this area. It's too bad that the content is so much more adult, as many young girls like to take the quizzes as a way to get to know themselves.

A good, wholesome website for girls ages 11 and up!

This website is fun for girls like me, because you get to earn badges, points, and play games. The educational value is iffy, but the reason I found this website was from a school-related flyer, so I supposed that it is okay. It does not seem to have any language, which is a wonderful thing, and I really enjoy the quizzes, games, and surveys of this website! I'm all for missoandfriends.com!
