What Parents Need to Know

This review of SesameStreet.org was written by Susan Yudt

Parents need to know that this highly interactive Sesame site is a fun, safe, and educational place for kids to play and learn. Parents can set up playlists of videos and games, which kids can navigate through with the help of voice-over instructions and graphics showing them what to do. There's also a PlaySafe feature available on some browsers that allows parents to lock a playlist or game page so that kids left to play on their own can't get to other Web sites. (Note: We don't recommend preschoolers surf around online, and if they do, parents should be right next to them.)

Families Can Talk About

Talk to your kids about the media in their life. We have more tools and tips that can help
  • Families can talk about the topics addressed in the games and videos -- everything from what to do when you have to go to the bathroom to respecting people's differences. Families can also talk about what age is right to use a computer and what are healthy computer habits to get into.

More on SesameStreet.org

What’s the Story?

Elmo, Ernie, Grover, and friends have a new online home at the recently revamped SESAMESTREET.ORG, a colorful collection of activities featuring the beloved Muppets. Parents who register on the site (user name and password only, no email) can create a My Street page for their child to store playlists -- collections of favorite videos and games. There's also a section of playlists created by Sesame, organized around subjects and educational themes. A special section for parents provides advice on topics like helping kids cope with stressful events and developing healthy habits.

Is It Any Good?

Kids will have a blast interacting with their furry Muppet friends in the simple, yet lively games, while parents will appreciate the breadth of information presented, from tooth brushing for toddlers to simple math and reading for kids about to start school. Slower computers may get a bit bogged down by all the flash animation, but overall, the site is user-friendly, age-appropriate, and easy to navigate.

Great Site for the Sesame Street Lover!

I love this website because it uses my childs favorite character (Elmo) to help direct him through different content. Learning games and fun Sesame Street Clips that I even enjoyed as a kid. Easy for my 3 yr old to navigate. Though sometimes it gets hung up in areas that I need to help out with. This site also offers Spanish content, plus Spanish learning content! Great plus!

  2. I rate this title iffy for age 2 and give it 5.0

i say iffy for 2 becaus kids that young shouldent be playing on the computor they should be outside playing or learning. plus even some of the sinpilest games will be confusing and hard for a 2 year old. leave playing on the computor till there 3.
