What Parents Need to Know

This review of SpongeBob SquarePants was written by Jean Armour Polly

Parents need to know that although the movie is PG, the Web site is for general audiences. There are several mentions of Patrick Star's lament, "Did you see my butt?" There are small sponsor icons from Burger King and Kellogg's, among others.

  • Families can talk about SpongeBob's good qualities. In the movie, why do you think SpongeBob stands by Mr. Krabs even though Mr. Krabs didn't give him the promotion? Would you help someone in need if that person hadn't always been nice to you? Why or why not?

More on SpongeBob SquarePants

What’s the Story?

The site offers a storyline for the movie, four movie trailers, some downloadable screensavers and buddy icons, and of course the requisite games. There are two entertaining games: a 3-D game and the Bubble-Bustin' Game. In the former, the object of the game is to drive your dune buggy around Bikini Bottom, taking on quests as you go. In the latter game, the object is to pop bubbles as they float from the bottom of the screen to the top. If the player doesn't pop the bubbles before then, SpongeBob gets increasingly happy, looking quite inebriated right before he reaches the "Freak Out" zone and gets tossed out of the "Thug Tug," back to the sands of Bikini Bottom.

Is It Any Good?

The Bubble-Bustin' Game works on both PC and Macintosh computers, although play is extremely slow on the Mac platform (hint: if you want to get a high score, play on the Mac!); play is zippy on a PC. The 3-D game works only on a PC (although they say a Mac version is coming soon.) It would not work with the Firefox browser but it liked Internet Explorer.

Give SpongeBob a chance before you criticize

I've watch SpongeBob SquarePants since the show came on and i have got to say i still do because it is a funny show. Plus i love Spongebob because come on who doesn't love sponges. He's funny and he just bounces back every time something happebs to him and he is okay every time you see him. that is also a positive message. this show can be watched by children and adults.
