Dora to Explore Adolescence
August 27, 2008
Backpack-wearing Dora, who speaks English and Spanish, has been hailed as an role model for young children.
But children's network Nickelodeon wants to update her to draw in early teen audiences who tune into programmes like Hannah Montana and Bratz.
Dora herself is likely to grow up and become more feminine, while the network is also considering creating a group of Explorer Girls who would appeal to older children.
Nickelodeon declined to comment on the specific changes but said it was eager to find ways to retain Dora's pre-school fans as they matured.
A spokesman said: "Dora is as popular as she's ever been, and now has a second generation of viewers that we would love to serve."
The cartoon has been running for eight years and has been translated into 24 languages and syndicated to 125 markets around the world.
