San Francisco, CA – Common Sense Media, the national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids and families thrive in a world of media and technology, announced today that Joni Lupovitz has been named vice president of policy for the organization. Lupovitz will assume her duties in Common Sense's Washington, D.C. office beginning in April.

Her expertise, as well as her inside knowledge and relationships inside the Beltway, will be invaluable to the organization as we continue to work with Congress, government agencies, and industry leaders on policies that protect kids and empower families."
Lupovitz has served as chief of staff to Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz since March 2009. In this position, Lupovitz is a senior adviser to the chairman on policy, strategic planning, and management. She coordinates with the FTC senior staff to advance the agency’s consumer protection and competition missions, including law enforcement and policy initiatives involving consumer privacy, new technologies, and marketing to children. Lupovitz joined the FTC in 1999 as an attorney in the Bureau of Consumer Protection’s Division of Enforcement, later serving as an assistant director, then an attorney advisor to Commissioner Leibowitz. Before joining the FTC, Lupovitz was a partner with McDermott, Will & Emery, where she had a diverse civil litigation and administrative practice. She holds a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and a B.A. from McGill University. She is the mother of two children and lives with her family in the Washington, D.C. area.

Common Sense Media’s team in Washington, D.C., includes director April McClain-Delaney, a member of Common Sense Media’s Board of Directors and president of the Delaney Family Fund, and policy manager Jillian Oberfield, who was most recently a legislative assistant in Rep. Edward Markey’s (D-MA) Capitol Hill office.
