San Francisco -- Today, Common Sense Media CEO James Steyer issued the following statement regarding Facebook’s IPO:
“The Facebook IPO is about much more than of billions of dollars. As Mark Zuckerberg said, Facebook was ‘built to accomplish a social mission.’ We agree –- and as a society, we have to take a close look at the impact. The ‘social mission’ of Facebook raises critically important societal issues including the social, emotional and cognitive development of our nation’s and the world’s kids and teens. Moreover, Facebook and its IPO raise important issues about our fundamental right to privacy. We sincerely hope this IPO announcement will launch a much needed national discussion about these issues that will impact our children and the future of our country for years to come.”
