SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Today, Common Sense Media CEO James Steyer issued the following statement regarding the Federal Trade Commission’s settlement with mobile app maker W3 Innovations, LLC over kids’ privacy violations:
“Today's FTC decision is an important step in updating our country’s privacy laws for today’s 21st century mobile environment. The reality is, mobile devices are a huge part of kids’ lives today, which is why Common Sense Media has been advocating for privacy protections that apply across all online and mobile platforms, including apps. We are pleased that the FTC has made it clear that COPPA applies to the mobile space, including apps, and hope that the FTC will continue to clarify the rules for app makers in its COPPA review that is due out later this year.”
