James (“Jim”) Coulter is a Founding Partner of TPG Capital, L.P. ("TPG"). TPG is a leading global private equity and alternative asset investment firm managing in excess of $70 billion. TPG has been a lead equity investor in more than 150 companies including: Continental Airlines, Neiman Marcus Group, Seagate Technology, Oxford Health Plans, Beringer Wine Estates, Lenovo Group Limited, Debenhams, Myers Department Stores, PETCO Animal Supplies, Burger King Brands, J. Crew Group, Punch Taverns, TXU Inc, Alltel Corporation, ON Semiconductor, and, MEMC Electronic Materials. TPG is based in San Francisco and Fort Worth and has offices in 10 countries.
Mr. Coulter is a Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College and received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1986, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar. Prior to co-founding TPG in 1992, he worked for Keystone, Inc. and Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb.
Mr. Coulter serves on the Boards of Directors of Lenovo Group Limited, The Neiman Marcus Group, J. Crew Group, Inc., and Alltel Corporation. He is a former member of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Council and a member of the Stanford University Board of Trustees.
