Out 11/21/08: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling Powerful penultimate book mines Voldemort's past.
Out 12/12/08: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer Overlong but engrossing popular vampire romance.
Out 12/19/2008: The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo An excellent read-aloud or discussion-group book.
Sometime in '08: Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson OK series launch about flock of mutants. Tweens.
Sometime in '08: Cirque du Freak by Darran Shan Just a thrill ride -- no characterizations, a plot that makes little sense.
Sometime in '08: Eloise in Paris by Kay Thompson Eloise's enthusiasm for Paris is delightful.
Out 1/09: Inkheart by Cornelia Funke There's an edge to the villainy here.
Out 2/6/09: Coraline by Neil Gaiman The story is pretty creepy -- not for sensitive children.
Out 11/6/09: Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl Dahl's satisfying Robin Hood tale.
Out 11/09: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan Modernized Greek myths meet fast-paced adventure.
Sometime in '09: Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak Classic masterpiece for toddlers and early grades.
