Parents need to know that there's nothing offensive about this story of a mischievous cat.
One small black-and-white cat manages to make a big wreck of the house. How will he get out of this mess?
Every time a cat jumps in the house, he causes trouble: trash on the floor, closets up-ended, rugs scattered, and paint spattered. Kids will enjoy seeing just how bad the chaos can get and will likely identify with the poor cat who gets into trouble so quickly that he barely has time to recover from one accident before he's in another one. The book offers excitement (such glorious messes!) and some tension since sooner or later the cat will, of course, get caught.
The author's action-packed prose is a great fit for the illustrator's busy, sketchlike watercolors. As the words skip down across the page, so do the pictures of cascading messes.
Families can talk about the responsibilities that come with having a pet. What kinds of trouble can pets get into? How can you prevent them from getting into trouble?
