Great book as long as you recognize that it is fiction.

This is an extremely well written and researched thriller. Some complained that it was anti-catholic, but it is simply a work of fiction. You can't believe everything in it. It is not a history textbook. That having been said this is an excellent book. Not quite as good as "Angels and Demons", and not nearly as good as Dan Brown's latest "The Lost Symbol", but still a great read.

Excellent Book, but Not for Kids

The Da Vinci Code is a gripping page-turner filled with deception, intrigue, history lessons, and some fascinating puzzles. I was shocked to hear kids as young as twelve talking about reading it and its companion, Angels and Demons. While the content is appropriate for readers over the age of thirteen, the complexity of the story makes it suitable for only 16+. Wait and have your kids read it then, they will understand and appreciate it more.

    Its Fine!

I do not know what the big hype about this book is (concerning violence and religion issues) understand what is real and what is fiction its fine. Also, I would strongly suggest that you read it beforehand, so you can inquire about what part your child is at and open a conversation. Its also good to reinforce at every conversation that this novel is only a book, only fiction. If you're concerned with violence don't let them read it until they have seen a 14 A movie. Otherwise, Enjoy the good read!

Excellent and Thrilling Read; Some Aspects not Appropiate for Kids

Dan Brown is an evil genius. He obiously enjoys our torment as we try to live through every day life while Robert Langdon is inches from death. Honestly, don't pick up this book on a work night. With tantilizingly short chapters and a highly suspensful style, you will not want to put this book down. You will probably want your kid to put it down, though. There really isn't too much bad stuff in this book, however, there are a couple of quite mature discussions about sex, including one scene of a pagan sex ritual. Having said that, other than that, there really isn't much bad stuff in the book at all. If you are Christian, you might be offended by the assertion of Christ having married and having children, but so long as you keep it within the context of fiction, you should have no problems reading this excellent book.

An Interesting Thriller with Historical and Religious Fabric.

Common Sense's despcription of "too arcane for younger kids..." is a bit of a laugh. Dan Brown is probably the most simplistic author I've ever read, considering the size of his books. His writing is not very impressive, when taking into thought the hype his work gets. They're riddled with cliches, boring similies, and relatively unengaging characters. So why did I give this book four out of five stars? Because the actual plot is brilliant. Why would I complain so much, yet not muster the willpower to put this book down until I finished it? It was THAT intriguing. The same holds true with Brown's "Angels and Demons" (which, I daresay, is a teensy bit more interesting than "The Da Vinci Code"). It is for THIS reason - Brown's genius storylines, not his writing abilities - that I look forward to his next book, which will be released this year.

Poorly Written? What's WRONG With You?!!!

I simply can't believe that common sense disregarded this book as "poorly written." IT'S GENIOUS! Dan Brown's ideas are well-thought out, abd the novel amounts to a pulse-pounding, hari-raising and incredibly complex thriller. Each time you think that you have it figured out, it throws another curveball and keeps you guessing. And Dan Brown has written it wonderfully, Common Sense must have read it with their eyes closed. As for the content, it's a little violent but not much else. Of course, there will be those that find the book insulting because it doesn;t exactly follow their religion, but they just need to keep an open mind and realize that it's a FICTIONAL NOVEL!!! And, before I forget, let me tell you to read the book and skip the film. I don't know how it happened with people like Tom Hanks and Ron Howard at the wheel, but the film just kinda sucks.

    Fantastic!

Though not Dan Brown's best piece of literature, The DaVinci Code offers an intricate plot that will captivate the reader. A lot of stigma surrounds the "anti-catholic" devices Brown uses, it must be remembered that this is a novel, and nowhere does it claim to be otherwise (Brown states that references to geography and artifacts are correct, which seems logical since it's a work of realistic/historical fiction). For anyone looking to be entertained in a way that won't rot your brain cells, Brown has you covered.

    A good fiction read

I found the story so gripping and intresting that I read the whole thing in about a week. It's a great work of fiction, being a cristian myself I had to laugh at some of the aspects of it but it's more of a "What if" book, rather than Mr. Brown making accusations.

    Lies, lies, lies

I personally have not read this book, but our old pastor did a sermon on it. I was amazed at how many blaiten LIES are in this particular piece of literature. Jesus never had a wife; He was too perfect for any earthly lady. My family was disgusted with this book as am I. All it is is misleading LIES.

Good Book, don't know what the fuss is about

This is a very good book. Well paced, good characters. I'm not saying the book is true, but it is perfectly plausible Jesus had a wife. The anti-Catholic thing was kind of harsh, but the early catholic church was pretty messed up. Good read for 13 and up.

This is a very intriguing book, however most kids under 14 would not understand the message or the details of the plot.

    LOVED IT!

this is one of those books you stay up all night reading cuz there is no place you can, or WANT to put it down. the book grabs your attention from the first few sentences. if you have read ANGELS AND DEMONS (also by Dan Brown)you will be suprised to see how much less violent this is compared to that. the only sex in this book is talking about a ritual of a group of people. Fache smoke. other characters drink in 2 scenes. only commercialism is reference to book (Holy Blood, Holy Grail)

    fast paced, fun, great book

This book was amazing. I loved every part of it. The plot is constantly changing, there is a huge twist at the end, and it kept me interested the whole time. The monk, Silas is a VERY devout catholic, and use a cialice, which is a spiked belt tied around his thigh. He also whips himselfin the back. All this is to remind him of Christ's suffering. There is a scene of ritualistic sex, as well as some murders and other violence. This book is for pre-teens, and not younger kids who dont understand this stuff.

I think 15+ is a good age for this book, It may be a bit too much for younger readers to be exposed to and to understand but for advanced readers age 13+ (like myself(im 14))it is a great read. It is simply superb.

    great!

I thought this book was really good. Its all about this kinda hunt. and its really neat. i mean there is a bit of alchohol and about a paragraph on sex. but its not bad. and its fun to follow along. if your a very religious person, and you read it, its not telling you what to think. just like if you read a vampire book, you dont have to believe in vampires. its a very good book.

    Exciting

It kept my interest and to tell the truth, i couldn't put it down. The problem with the book is all of the Things that are wrong. Most people have heard about the controversy with the book. The people who have a problem with it have a reason to find it offending.

    Great story

This is a great story, but it filled with inacurracies that are totally wrong, and there are two parts in the book that have annoying sexual references, like the bit on ritual sex. This book it great, but it is very annoying to the point I nearly yelled at the book. Teens+
