i loved it, it was an adventure it was so detailed i felt like i was actually in the book. just like Cornelia Funke's other books! i would like her to continue to writing her creative books! i really enjoyed it, and i recommend kids to read it if theyre in for an adventure. This is one of the books where you read it at night and want to go to bed but cant because its so interesting. Most books im not able to imagine because there is not much details, but with this book i imagined so much! And at the end of the book i was mad it ended because it was such a masterpiece! I cant wait for Cornelia Funke to make another sequel.

A fun dagon adventure.
This is a long book but it keeps moving. There is a lot that happens to this dragon and his riders. I recommend it to anyone who would like to be a dragonride themselves. It shows that everyone needs friends.

Fantastic adventure for all ages!
I read this book before my son read it, since my son is 7 and I was familiar with the author's other books(they're more for a little older set with some of their themes). I was so entertained by the writing, character development and intricacy of the story that I began reading it to my son. The story is delightful to read with your child and discuss. Here are some of the points we talked about: the characters have ideas about the world that get challenged (initially the main magical creatures don't trust humans), what it means to be a friend (one character betrays our heroes because of his own confusion about what it means to be a friend, but then atones for it later), what it means to be truthful about something you've done that's wrong (same character admits his betrayal to his friends despite his own fear about coming clean), how appearances can be deceiving (something looks dangerous, but isn't)....ok, the list goes on like this. I think they are timely topics and brought forward in not particularly scary ways. I mean, we are talking about fantastic creatures as a metaphor for how humans interact with other humans or with the animal world now. The characters were also easy to relate to for my son. I can also HIGHLY recommend the audiobook of the book performed by actor Brendan Fraser. His narration & voices were amazing! It was so engrossing that my son sat for 4 hours one rainy afternoon and couldn't tear himself away!! (we don't watch tv or do computer games, but this was compelling material for his busy body!) In short, I cannot say enough good things about this book and would recommend it for any kid about 5 or 6 (depending on personality & attention spa since it is quite lengthy) and up. Happy reading!

A great read for dragon lovers!
This is obviously Cornelia Funke's first novel. It was not as satisfying as her other two (The Thief Lord and Inkheart). The characters are not as well-rounded and the plot is somewhat flat. That being said, my just 9 year old loved it as an extended bedtime read aloud.

Great Story
This is an amazing book and a must-read for any who love fantasy, adventure, and some comedy. I've always been interested in mythological creatures like Dragons, unicorns, etc., and I think it's great That Cornelia Funke wrote a book that starred dragons, but showed them in a different light than what they're normally given. Usually dragons are portrayed as vicious, treasure-hoarding monsters, but here, they were sentient, and actually gentle creatures. Thumbs up definately!

Great!
Lovely written, and has nice humor in it. The book shows how humans can hurt animals(even dragons), and it might change how someone acts.

Only for fantasy-lovers....
I read this novel when I was thirteen on the advice of a friend who loved it. Well, frankly, I didn't like it very much at all. This is definitely for the fantasy-lovers who can handle dragons and talking animals running around with humans. I'd only recommend it to them. I would recommend Cornelia Funke's other books in the Inkheart series though. They don't have any talking animals.

i bought this book when it first came out and though i knew it was directed towards kids, i still enjoyed it! an awesome story. what i would recommend it most for is that its a wonderful book to read to children. i read to my little brother, and he loved the book so much, that when we had finished it, he wanted to read it himself despite how thick it was! congrats mrs. funke!

A long novel so intriguing that It seems like it's so short
This book is really good. I like it because of the way Funke had characters have small addictions like Sorrel's addiction to mushrooms. As the story goes on, those things interweave with the big plot. I also like how funny some of the characters are.

better than i expected
dragon rider is a great book. sometimes the plot slows down and it gets a little dull. but it's hard to leave a chapter wondering what will happen in the next one. i found it very entertaining.
