    Half clued in

I just finished reading this book to my 8 year old. I have read the first three to him as well. I agree that children 10 and older will probably get more from this book than the average 8 year old. That said, my child loves the series and did not have a hard time with the gory parts or the death of a "good guy" character. In fact it gave us the opportunity to discuss what he hears, sees, and discusses with friends at school. Several of his friends are into Star Wars and Indiana Jones as well as Harry Potter. We have talked about fiction and fact, about the horrors of war and why people should avoid war at all costs, and about why people follow "a bad guy" as a leader. I expect in a year or two my son will go back and read these books to himself, and having been through them once will probably get a lot of nuance out of them. He has not suffered from nightmares or been troubled by the story. He is learning about literature and developing a thirst for exciting books and becoming an avid reader.

    Great teenage characterisation

What I like most about these books - and esp this one - as an adult reader is the characterisation of the children as they become teenagers and young adults. They are really believable, from their petty jealousies to the stomach churning desire to get dates. The Triwizard tournament is a bit of a contrivance, but overall, I like the action in this novel.

Younger kids won't be able to understand it

There have been younger kids who have read this book, but they have trouble understanding it. It's hard for an 8 year old to understand that a trusted teacher put Harry's name in the cup...and the trusted teacher Harry knew wasn't him at all. The graveyard scene will scare anyone under ten. The characters are strong and stand up for others. Me? I absolutely love this book. I've read it over and over and over again. I love Hermione's whole S.P.E.W.

This book holds an excellent fantasy novel that really any age can enjoy. I've reread it so much and can never get over Rowling's genius imagination.

Many stories have striven to catch the minds of its readers, or its listeners for that matter. From the beginning of time people have made daring attempts at concocting amusing and diverting tales, but J.K. Rowling has spun a most convincing story. Since the introduction of Harry Potter to the public, thousands upon thousands, undoubtedly millions, of every race, age, and religion, have fallen under his spell. After reading the fourth, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Finished it in less than three days; I couldn't put it down!), I have to let it be know that Ms. Rowling does not disappoint. As every preceding Potter book starts off, the newest is no different: Harry is staying with his insufferable relatives, the Dursleys. And as always, he has found a new, more creative and exciting means of shortening his summer stay with his Aunt, Uncle, and cousin. Trouble invariably manages to find Harry, even at his seemingly secure refuge. Lord Volde-- oh, goodness, excuse me!-- he-who-must-not-be-named is at his strongest, and Harry is facing greater risk than ever before. This is Harry's fourth year at Hogwarts, and he is now fourteen years old. So along with life-threatening situations, almost losing a best friend, meeting new foes, dealing with old ones- namely Professor Snape and Draco Malfoy, and managing to get most of his homework done, Potter must also deal with the anguish and misery of being a teenager. Take it from me managing all this while being a teen is not easy! I recommend this novel to people who enjoy science fictional books with a little bit of comedy and mystery. This book it so well written that a reader of almost any age can pick up on it. All in all this was a good book and I loved reading it, if you enjoyed my review please consider reading the book, I guarantee you will not regret it.

Rowling is the Grand Master of pacing.

I just want to start by saying that this is an absolutely magical piece of literature. Adults and teens are guaranteed to have fallen in love with Prisoner of Azkaban, and of course this one. These books are quickly leaving "Children's Book" territory. One of the most amazing things about this book for me is that it's formula is just as different from the third as the third's is from the first two. I particularly loved this one, and related to the characters so well due to the fact that I am the same age as them and that many things that they are going through, I am as well. Rowling used well her power to make readers squirm and feel sympathetic towards harry and other characters when dealing with girls/boys of special interest to them. The climax of this book left me breathless. Another astonishing thing that Rowling has accomplished is this: Many fantasy novels these days are well over 700 pages, and yet they should never have even broken the 350 mark. Rowling wrote this 700+ paged novel, and it's pacing couldn't be any more perfect. There is not even ONE boring moment in this entire book. I reccomend this book to everyone who has read the previous three. To the people that have not yet started this wonderful journey, I suggest they start the Sorcerer's Stone immediately.

    #1 Daniel Racliffe Fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved this Book!!! I always enjoy books packed with action, and J.K. Rowling portrayed action just the way I like it!! I am not affected by violence, but I know people who are, and I admit there is a bit of it in there. I thought that the Tasks were great in the Triwizard tournament!! I think adding a dragon was AWESOME!!!!! This book was not just action-packed, but it was FUNNY!!! This installment is not for the faint hearted though, it can get quite gory. This book has you thinking one thing about a character, and by the end of the book, something COMPLETELY different. This book is hard to put down!!!! I would reccomend it to anyone over the age of 10.

    Funniest!

This HP book is by far the funniest of all. It's fast moving (literally; there has not been a single time in which I have read this book for over three days) and a lot denser than the previous books. It's a big turning point in the series.

THE Turning Point in the Series

When I first read the Goblet of Fire, I thought: "Hmm, this isn't going to be another 'Harry foils Voldemort's resurrection attempts,' is it?" The book did indeed seem to begin that way, but I quickly realized that Rowling was on to something. It took place after Harry's innocent romps through Hogwarts castle as a preteen, yet before everything went to Hell in a handbasket during the latter parts of the series. The book is truly in a class of its own. The darkness is undeniable in this volume, and some parts may send the little ones flying under the blankets because they are described so realistically. The book is well over 700-pages, so it is definately something you would pursue on those uneventful days at home. For the first time in the series, the swear words become ever so subtle. Considering the length and material of the book, The Goblet of Fire should be appropriate for anyone over nine.

This is the book in the series where it starts to be a lot darker.(A teenager is killed, Evil characters are given stronger power, etc.) Still a very enjoyable book, but may frighten younger children.
