tis book is a good book for kids and young teens to read. but there is some vilonce and the reading and content will probably be to much for 7 year olds and younger. but 8 year olds even though the content is suggestive and it is a little challenging it think they should try reading it. and kids that are 9 and up should definetly read it!!!!!!!

Great, Dark, Mystical and Funny--If your Child is Up for it.
I do hold the belief that J.K Rowling should be ranked right up there with William Shakespeare on the "Measurements of Brilliant Literature" scale. With her tale focusing on a boy whose SCAR is a symbol of wonder, Rowling manages to make her own writing style without making it seem...deranged. She has indeed disproved the old stereotype of "British humor", as each novel--as far as I have read--has more than one hilarious moment in them. Some may seem slightly gross, but appear to be only so in movie format, as the author is polite enough not to go into detail. The book series DOES, however, have a recurring theme of violence, but only when necessary, or when merely to the readers pleasure (because we all wanted Draco to get punched in the face by Hermione. Admit it.) For example, one book features a large snake-like monster (that I wouldn't happen to remember the specific term for at the moment), which is brought down by Harry when he shoves a sword into the roof of its mouth, but again, it never goes into bloody detail. Another concern is that the Defense against the Dark Arts teachers are practically their universe's version of the Red shirts--that makes sense if you watch Star Trek--because they are usually only for the job once, but I do recall that only one died, the other one was fired, and I still haven't finished the third. (Perhaps he quit?) Anyway, the "Harry Potter" series is a fun and unique ride to take with your children without regretting--so saying, if you believe they're ready for EVER SO SLIGHT violence.

Great Family Reading
Boys and girls with a keen sense of adventure will love reading this and the rest of the Harry Potter books. With smaller kids, aged 5 - 7, this is a great place to start reading chapter books out loud with them. For older kids, they'll love the characters and story-lines so much, they'll make the extra effort to get through the books themselves.

Good book for Kids and Adults
Harry Potter is finally a fantasy book for not just kids but adults to. Able to be read by younger kids due to it's lack of sex, language and gore, it is still enjoyable for the adults that love a good clean story. A must read!

Wonderful movie
It was a great movie and a little violent. It isn't educational unless you're a wizard. I would'nt say it had good role models because the kids are constantly breaking roles and getting in trouble. Morale: Never trust people wearing turbans!

The Harry Potter series can easily turn non readers into reading fanatics.
As the csm review says, for parents tired of the hours spent playing video games by their kids, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the solution. It's a marvelous book that will appeal to children, but not only to children. Adults and teens alike have fallen in love with this series and will continue to do so for good reason. noone is better at moving the story along like Rowling is. There isn't a dry or boring spot in the entire series, at least not that I have found. This is a must read for kids 9 and older.

Amazing Book
I love it! It was so exciting!! I couldn't stop reading and I am so glad that this is a series.

LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book was GREAT!!!! It was a bit slow at first, but then once Harry gets into Hogwarts, it just gets better and better. I know this might sound a little silly, since Harry Potter is a fictional character, but he is one of my role models!!! This is book is one of the best in the series!!! I would reccomend this book for kids 8 and up. *Once you start these books, it's hard to stop, but if you read them when you are younger, remember this, they get darker and darker every book, so you might want to wait till you're older to read the rest of them.

Please, Don't Be Silly
To the Anonymous at the bottom of the first page: You shouldn't be reviewing if you've never read the book! Harry Potter is not encouraging kids to do black magic or sacrificial rituals or ancient works of sorcery involving the giving of blood; in fact it's quite the opposite.
- I rate this title on for age 9 and give it
It was a very good story that will keep you reading until the very end!
I hate the people who give it 1 star because there parents are religous ediots and dont want to even speak the word 'magic'. It is a nice book and 14 year olds I think should be allowed to read a nine year old book. If you're not allowed to read it, WHY DID YOU REVIEW IT???
- I rate this title on for age 10 and give it
Outstanding!!!
I read this book not expecting much out of it... but after I finished I was blown away!!!! This is a wonderful thought out story that is amazingly written. But I don't think it's a good idea for young young kids read it because they might actually want to get involved with sorcery and witchcraft. But I've read this and I'm almost done with the second one. They are both truly amazing!! READ THEM!!

I say, some people just don't understand the books at all!
This is just the beginning of how it all started, you can't expect it to be a happy story, like a perfect family or something like that! That's highly impossible to rate this 9! I'd prefer it to be rated 17+ or something!

Wonderful Literature for Kids and Adults
Growing up around a diverse family has showed me many things. One thing I have been exposed to, incidentally, is the real practice of Wiccanism and WitchCraft. I can say with complete and utter confidence that Harry Potter is in NO way similar to the actual practice of WitchCraft, and any worried parents out there should know that, if their child is interested in reading the book. That aside, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Philosopher's Stone, to non-Americans), introduces us to the complex and surprisingly vast world of wizardkind. While it only scratches the surface of what is eventually revealed by the end of the series, it still gives the reader an excellently-written and interesting ride with a good story, imaginative locations, crazy creatures, likeable characters, and quirky humor that could've only come from JK Rowling. The book is an easy read, and should appeal to anyone over the age of six or seven.
