I was Suprised this only got 3 stars!

The book is positively superb. The adults aren't very idiotic according to my memory, just a bunch of them are...uh...yeah. There are bullies, which are necessary to the plot, and some injuries, but they don't even POKE at the graphic area. It is indeed humorous, and many kids aren't even very shocked by mild swears anyway, so your child may enjoy it--if you'll allow them to take the ride.

An OK Book, but not TOO OK

Roy Eberhardt is a kid who moves from Montana to Florida, and doesn't like it at all. He expects what he gets though; a bully: Dana Matherson. Roy wouldn't have met Napolean at all if it weren't for Dana, though. After Dana mashed his face into his school bus window, Roy saw the boy. He met the boy soon after too, and his cousin, Beatrice the bear. They call this new kid "mullet fingers" so he had to be interesting. Roy and Napolean and Beatrice become friends and they tell Roy that they're trying to stop people from bulldozing an empty lot with a lot of burrowing owls' nests in it. Roy's beginning to start a whole new life in Florida now, and boy he likes it!

    Hoot

A good story about teens taking a stand and fighting for the poor owls. Who live in the ground where the land is going to be destroyed. It has some violence such as a broken nose and bullying. It's a wonderful story and has a wonderful ending!

Language is iffy, but great message!

Well,2 years ago, my whole class in 5th grade read this book, and it was really good. Parents, there are a few swear words in this book, which I don't think were needed. But anyway, this book is about a kid named Roy who moves to a new school and he and his friends, "Mullet Fingers" and Beatrice, help him save some owls from getting their homes taken away from them. The book is interesting, and it has a great message and ending.

    "A must-read book for every 10-year-old"

This was an overall great book. I read it when i was 11 and just loved it. All though the story plot wasn't very well thought out, this was a funny, happy-ending story which is great for kids 10 and up.

    Amazing Book!

Hoot is an amazing book that I really enjoyed. Carl Hiaasen is a terrific writer who writes very moving stories. This novel is a great read for any one over the age of 10. It is more of a challenge for younger children, but I think young adults/ adults would enjoy simply reading it. I am 13 and I just read Hoot for the 2nd time and loved it again. Also, if you liked this book, I would check out Flush another excellent novel written by C. Hiaasen.
