Great book and great reading. Great story that lets kids get absorbed into a fantasy world that is built around them in classic language and artistry that is CS Lewis. The CommonSense reviewer feels that he needs to tell parents that this is "Dated" and "Simple"? PLEASE! Why not warn parents about books that have vivid descriptions of violent acts against children, infanticide, and other inappropriate content for these ages? Many newer, "award winning" books that get raves are "current" and are trash and are no where near appropriate for the ages these reviewers say.

A great book for Christian families
I was quite disappointed that the movie of this book downplayed the most important aspect: this is a representation of Jesus' death and resurrection! C.S. Lewis wrote many wonderful Christian books that are not preachy, but certainly get the message across. If you read the book with your child and you have EVER been to church, you can't miss the message!

imaginitive fantasy with realistic feeling
I waited until my son was 9 to let him read this book. I am glad but I think it was right on par for his age. The violence is exciting and not too intense for him and has reason and consequence to back it up. We are dealing with non humans, which helps in the discussion. I liked the social aspect as the behavior of Edmund and his siblings provided true feelings, consequences and teaching opportunities and space for forgiveness. The gender roles were traditional yet, aside from Ms Beaver loving to sew and the girls given weapons for protection and emergencies, I personally don't have a problem with the women not being sent into battle...

The first book in a series all kids should read
This is a good story that centers around the battle between good and evil. There is mild violence, but it is nothing more than an eight-year-old can handle!

transparent, but lovable
yeah, it's totally obvious that aslan is jesus. not subtle and all. but despite that (and i'm not even christian!) i still loved this book. my whole family got really into it one summer, so warning: get into it as much as you like, but no matter how good the author makes turkish delight sound, do yourself a favor and don't go out and try it. it is so, so gross.

Good Book.
I thought this was a pretty good book when I read it. It is suspensing and it has a good storyline in which you must think in order to fully understand it. Considering C.S. Lewis writes all his book with inspiration from Lord of the Rings, you will see similarities according to people who have read both (I've only read this one). Now a lot of people don't know that C.S. Lewis is a Christian author, and this book was written with Christian symbolisms. The fact that the boy (been so long since I read the book I can't remember his name) follows the witch was C.S. Lewis's way of showing someone falling into the traps of Satan. The fact that the lion gets killed and resurrected shows a symbolims referring to Jesus being killed and later resurrected. If you overlook C.S. Lewis's reasoning for everything in the book, you will view it inappropriate and not too good.

Great Series, dont miss!
These books are practically classics and some that you DONT want to miss. I should say that children should be allowed to read them at 8 and up because then they can reread them till they are much older. There is absolutly nothing wrong or truly violent about these books.

C.S. Lewis is the best
C.S. Lewis is the best auther there is. he is dead ( i wish he wasnt ) but i think he would proud of this comment. he made all those books for a reason im sure. by what the books are about, i think he is one of the strongest cristian ( besides jesus ) that ever lived!

I feel so bad about saying it.....but I didn't like it.....
I feel bad about saying it, because C.S. Lewis seems to have so many fans, but I didn't really like the book. I read it when I was 9 for a class project and was not very impressed. I understood it perfectly and thought the language was excellent, but I guess it was just too imaginative for me. It lacked, in my opinion, a way to make it entirely believable. Sorry all you C.S. Lewis fans! Unfortunately, I just didn't fall under the spell.

Omg
It is HORRIBLE to say that this book has no action, and to say "If you're going to write it again" and "don't use such old fashioned language" is ignorant. C.S. Lewis is one of the most amazing writers that has ever been, and he wrote the book in the early 1900's. This book is a complete masterpeice, and any kid should be encouraged to read it all the way.

What happened to the ice crack? How about the hunting of the White Stag? They spoke in such weird words? And what does ye thow and hereth? Please if you are going to write this book again, please put more action in it!!!

The Book Of Belief
This book was very inspiring to a young writer like me, it gave me ideas on how to organize writing and Lewis really fo;;owed through the story. On a scale of 1 to 10 I think it deserves a 8.***

Has a verry important message of how you have to learn to forgive others. I loved it! Even though I've read sadder books, when Aslan forgives Edmund I cryed so bad! And I like the fact that it doesn't all end so wonderfully well. The next book (the horse and his boy) is really good and explains a lot!

A must-read book
This book is fun for any age a must-read book which is as entertaining as the movie one of the best!

EVERYONE will love this book!
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is a perfect book for 8+, or even lower. This book is a little violent--Aslan is abused in front of the girls, Edmund is mistreated by the witch, Peter kills a wolf, and there is a battle where several beings are killed. However, there are good moments, like when the girls play with Aslan. I don't want to give away too much, but enjoy!

The start of great fantasy stories...
This is practically the origin of all great fantasy stories! There's a war near the end but it's not too descriptive... Mr. Beaver drinks... But the kids watch out for each other (although Edmund gets a little selfish sometimes). This is a wonderful book you should encourage all your kids 8+ to read!
