The reason for my 0 stars is because I didnt finish it. Its just a short story about lyra, and her settled daemon pan, ( a pine marten) and how the notice a flock of birds acting strangely, and find out its the result of alchemy. I was bored by it so I went to read another of his books, I was a rat.

What Parents Need to Know
About Lyra's Oxford
Parents need to know that there is little of concern here, other than one brief fight in which a witch is killed by a swan.

Families Can Talk About
- Families can talk about the clues the author drops about upcoming events in Lyra's world. What might be the meaning of the cruise brochure, and the handwritten notation? What is the meaning of the bench on the postcard? Which Oxford is Mary in? Did you find any familiar names in the list of books on the back of the map?
