Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now!
Book Summary
Who is Marvin K. Mooney, and why should he go? Dunno. But not to worry, for whoever he is, he sets Dr. Seuss off on another of his lyrical word shows that aim to get young readers tangled up in books for life. A particularly daffy selection of Seussmobiles--Bumble-Boat, Crunk-Car, and Ga-Zoom--adds particular zing to this book.
Is It Any Good?
Marvin is a precious little imp, and readers will want to know why he is being handed his walking papers. But don't hold your breath. Marvin's destination, and why he is being asked to make tracks in that direction, remains a mystery -- which can be turned, during a read-aloud, into a guessing game (complete with rhyme, if possible). Dr. Seuss works momentum for all it's worth: Marvin can go by foot or by cow; he can go by skates, skis, or flying hat. Plausible conveyances give way to such unlikely vehicles as a self-propelled giant boot and ultimately to such classic Seussmobiles as the walking Crunk-Car.
The humor is bright, even if the reason for Marvin's dismissal is veiled. It is Dr. Seuss's haywire illustrations that truly fuel this book.
