I rate this title on for age 9 and give it 4.0
    My concerns are:
    • Excessive violence
    • Inappropriate language
    • Negative role models

the 2nd sequel in the wimpy kid series is pretty good.

i gave it on for 9+ because rodrick draws pictures of greg getting pushed off a cliff, greg and rowley play a violent bord game with rowleys babysitter, and greg draws violent pictures too.the language isnt bad words, but there is j lots of jerks, stupids, nerds and stuff like that.greg is a bad role model because he steals from rowley, and disobeys his mom. its probabably the most innaproprite diary of a wimpy kid, but anyone 9+ could probably read it.

    Ok, for mature children, 9+

It had a few questionable issues in it... The 'boys will be boys' mentality was pretty strong, but in the end wrongs were made known.

I rate this title iffy for age 13 and give it 2.0

Disappointing. We LOVED the first book. We had to set a timer for our kids to share reading it. But, the second book has iffy behavior and no consequences are experienced as a result. Roderick has a rowdy party while the parents are out of town. Greg is pulled in to keep the secret. Eventually when it is found out, Roderick's punishment is shortened by Dad. Greg teases a boy at school and lies to Mom about it. Greg writes about how Roderick gets out of doing homework and thinks up ways he too can cheat. No more innocent fun of the first book. So sad.

    This book RULES!

This is one of my favorite books of all time! It's funny, well written, and clever. Since it is written in cartoon form, it appeals to many types of readers, and even people who don't like to read. Read it now if you haven't already!

What *I* think parents need to know

is that the book is not meant to have a all-knowing, smart, friendly, and self-empowering main character. That is the joke--Greg is self-centered and unknowing of that. The books do not really show what Greg and his friends *should* be learning, but it is for HUMOR PURPOSES ONLY. Most kids 8-12 can relate to Greg well, since he is growing up. If the reader is older, then she/he will find the book more funny because of Greg's selfishness.

A must-read for middle schoolers! Even better than the first!

I was stunned at how funny and interesting the first "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" was. So I was expecting alot out of this second one; and man, I wasn't disappointed! Diary of a Wimpy Kid actually pulled a "Spider man" and the second was even better than the first! Parents, nothing really bad in this book, but honestly, what were you expecting? Anyway, these books seriously need to be made into movies, because they rock! Just tell your kids to read this one and the first one, they will love them!
