What Parents Need to Know

About Silent to the Bone

Parents need to know that there's an undercurrent of sexual tension in the book between two 13-year-old boys and an adult au pair that makes it a better choice for tweens and up. The plot also deals with a baby being shaken and injured.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the true meaning of the word "family" and whether family ties can transcend bloodlines. How are Bran and Connor's families different? What types of changes does Bran have to deal with when his father takes a new wife? What changes take place when Vivian comes into the picture? Why do you think Bran lost the ability to speak after his baby sister's accident?

    My concerns are:
    • Inappropriate sexual content

    Strongly innapropriate

This was the most sexually disturbing book I have ever read in my history of books. He gets an erection on the older woman!!!!!!!! I think if this is a movie it would be rated NC-17 for a violently strong sex scene. My friend read this book and caught hypothermia! My cousin read this book and he still can't stop watching My Little Pony! My mom read this book and killed my puppy chihuahua for no reason! What the f***!

Do not read! You will waste precious hours of your life! Read something like Doctor Zhivago instead.

I had to read this book for school, and I found it dull and slow. Once I'd put it down I dreaded picking it up again. I love to read, but this wasn't enjoyable. I thought the writing was poor and the story unbelievable. I didn't want to spend time reading about two teenage boys struggling with adolescence.

    a great book

my school participated in reading olympics and delaware county recommended this book to be on the middle school list. there werent that many inapropriate scenes and i loved the mystery. i dont see why kids cant read this i read it when i was 11 and ok fine im 12 now but i still dont get why people make such a big deal about not even a couple pages. yes that stuff is innapropriate for elementary school kids but cant parents just give a little more credit to older kids?? im starting the second book tonight :-)
