Parents need to know that there's nothing objectionable, but nothing too exciting here either.
A troop of flesh-eating army ants sets in motion a chain of events, taking Jack and Annie into a canoe without paddles, drifting down the Amazon. Piranhas, crocodiles, and snake-draped trees carry the story along as the duo searches for the second of four objects needed to release Morgan le Fay from a spell. Peanut the mouse accompanies them on their journey; a vine-swinging monkey provides the needed object.
No real danger ever gets too close, as the Magic Tree House twosome stumbles along, evading one creature after another. Annie, the animal lover, here is terrified of all bugs, which surprises even Jack. Snakes and crocs provide the standard elements of drama, but fall short of any heightened excitement. The needed object, through no effort of their own, falls into their lap as an unwanted gift, which adds to mystery but detracts from the magic.
Families can talk about the Amazon rainforest.
