For tweens, if they're mature
I love this book. I'm toward the end of Beautiful Darkness. I highly recommend it to anyone who is pretty mature. In Beautiful Darkness I'd watch out for swearing and that Liv, Marian's new assistant and Keeper-in-Training, and Ethan end up sleeping together. Watch out for that. But other than that great book. Let Macon Live On!

You don't have to like Twilight to love this book.
This is an enticing read. It engages you, it pulls you in. Pretty much displays a crazy Southern lifestyle sprinkled in with some dark fantasy and there you have it. Unlike Twilight, the characters are actually strong and know exactly what they're doing. It's also a good source of suspense; it has a wonderful, tightly-wound plot that unravels in the end. There's some kissing, yes, but it's beautifully written (or shall I say, all of the book is nicely written). There's one part where I was concerned that that Ethan and Lena had had sex ("it was a different kind of kiss........where the clothes returned to their hangers...") but there's really no telling. As far as this site goes, there wasn't any. But it's decent nonetheless and has enough supernatural elements without treading into the "Twilight copycat" zone. I loved it. Teens shouldn't miss it. There isn't too much language... wait, why am I saying this? Just buy it!

Good for tweens and up
I really enjoyed this book. I love fantasy and it delivered. It does get violent toward the end, but the book sends the message that you shouldn't be afraid to be who you are.

Love the boy's POV telling about a Caster girl ready to save him.
Ethan kinda reminded me of Bella Swan, but he's smarter & tougher then the girl. It felt like he's a female character seeing how he described his love story. I can't believe this guy's point of view is written by two female authors. This is new to me & I love it. Lena annoys me a bit by repeating about being a Dark Caster, but she did protected Ethan from Ridley's spell & her evil mother, Sarafine. Macon Ravenwood is a mysterious man, can't believe he died in this book. I was hoping to see more of him in the next sequels. But thank goodness Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl are bringing him "back to life" in the next sequel, Beautiful Darkness.Link is very loyal to Ethan though once he didn't as he was under Ridley's spell. I adore this book as a forbidden love story, not believing in the supernatural. Still, I hope the movie version of this book would be ready ASAP. I'll be watching. Can't wait.

*important please read*
i honestly believe this is a book for 15& up, its not for younger teens, it has "bad" parts that kids do not need to learn about just yet, thats qhat the parents are for, they need to teach you that, not a book.

Incredible Gothic Literature
Fantastic book. I feel sorry for Lena that she thinks she "has" to be what she is when she Turns. I love how Ethan is so protective and determined, he really wants to make her happy. He's determined to make sure she Turns a Light Natural, instead of a Dark one like her cousin. It's not anti-Christ, why would it be? They're only casting spells!

Great Book!
I lovedlovedloved this book! I've read it three times it was so good. I liked seeing a different point of view, because the book was in the perspective of a boy, even though I don't think boys would enjoy all the romance in the book... It really was amazing! I can really find nothing wrong with it, and I hope that there's a sequel!

Fantastic- Definately Not What I Expected
When I first picked up this book at the library, I was a huge skeptic. I'm not really into Gothic literature... or Gothic anything for that matter. I didn't know what to expect... but I expected witches, dark spells, vampires, werewolves, gory supernatural battles, tons of sex scenes, anti-Christs, superstitious old women... the whole nine yards. The only reason I read this book was because I wanted to try something new. And boy, was I surprised. There wasn't a single page in this book that I didn't love. It wasn't at all the Gothic, anti-Christ, witch book that I imagined. It was fantastic. I was glued to the stupid thing after the first three pages, and I loved every minute of it. I found myself saying, 'No, Ethan, don't do it!' or 'Show 'em, Lena!' and cheering on my favorite two characters. I loved the romance aspect. I loved the small town, Gatlin, and I loved how everything changed because of this one girl, Lena. I loved how much I hated the stupid Jackson Angels (stupid, stuck up, lying teenagers who hate Lena), I loved how much I loved Ethan and Lena together. It was a fantastic book, with a tragic, heart-stopping, and frankly, confusing-as-hell ending. I loved it. I'd recommend it to anyone whose mature enough to handle it. Hurry up with that sequel, Kami and Margaret!

It's a great book with great morals. Ethan, Lena, and Macon are great role models as well. I recently read this book and I couldn't put it down. Good for kids 13+.
