first of all, i am sorry of what i said about brainsurge.anyway, i have all the big nate books and all the wimpy kid books.the story starts as nate,gets a fortune cookie, and it says something great! it happens, but in a bad way.Nate gets 7 slips,and THAT means that he stays at school 7 hours a bunch of mis-happs happen, and it's funny. good humor, frindship,and a little crush,one kiss(not by jenny & nate!)!!mild name calling like"geek & dork & as strong as it gets,butthead.what do i think! what do i think! move over wimpy kid!Nate is comen' to town!he sees you when your sleepn' he knows when your awake!

If your kid[s] liked Diary of a Wimpy Kid then they will love Big Nate. Big Nate is a funny smart book with a good plot and a funny ending.

An Overall Good Book
Similar to Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, except suitable for younger kids! Very funny and has nice illustrations too! :D

big nate + a class by himself = forever alone
Wimpy Kid is a hit in realistic fiction sales, but why did so many desperate book publishers decide to decoy it? First came Dork Diaries, a natural disaster beyond natural disasters, now this? It's a great book, but it's thick on entertainment, but thin on actual plot. Some parts of the book are not amusing at all, and I wouldn't think kids would appeal much to a full-out lip lock performed by minor hallway students seen in the book. I believe that Big Nate wouldn't do well as a Wimpy Kid decoy, and especially after the second disaster, I don't think this series will go too far. Now anyways, about the book, you could buy it for kids, but give it a 2nd look, honestly.

Kissing & Crushes
Great book. Love it!!!!!!!!!! Nate has a crush on a girl, and one time a couple is drawn kissing in the hallway. But does that REALLY bother you? I mean, some kids in middle school do that sometimes. O.K, maybe not.... but I'm 9 and it didn't bother me! I think unless you're kid is 7 and under they/he/she would not be bothered by it.

A strict entertain-only... but harmless!
My 7 year old brother brought home this book, so i read it. It was OK, and not very funny, with a total of zero positive messages... but it was harmless. The only thing I wasn't so sure about was the crush stuff and the couple kissing— not for me but for my brother. This book is fine for your 9+ reluctant reader, but it's no great literature. =)
