Parents are dramatic.

This is going to the parents who say this book is horrible, it's just about a kid struggling through middle school and trying to overcome his problem. And if any of you say "it's a copy of the diary of a wimpy kid" let me get this straight this always happens, for example, on Youtube many content creators reuse peoples content sometimes they don't even know that they are, don't complain about a book if it could make a kid feel happy.

Great book for kids of all ages!

“Big Nate” was one of my favorite book series growing up. This one is about Nate trying to surpass all others the day that he gets a fortune cookie from his friend Teddy and finds that to be his fortune. He tries in every way to fulfill the fortune, but can’t seem to do it until the very end of the day. After a day full of detentions, he finds out that no one has gotten more detentions in one day than him, which means that he has surpassed all others after all, which is a positive message: you can accomplish anything when you set your mind to it. This is an amazing book for children, tweens, teens, and adults who grew up reading “Big Nate” comics. When it comes to storybooks instead of comic compilations, this one is one of my favorite stories, and I recommend it to kids of all ages!

Other Parents Are Way Too Negative

Seriously, it's just a kid, he might look disrespectful but its all fun and jokes, but this is a middle school related book so I only recommend it for kids who actually are in middle school or up. Other reviews say Nate has a negative message but to be honest he is only 11. And kids don't read this because they want a role model, they read it for a good laugh. Chill out people.

Not my fave

This book falls into the category of books I am fine with my kids reading, but I have no desire to read with them because it just irritates me. They find it amusing, but after reading part of it with them, I told them they're on their own.

Cute with no positive messages

It is a bit funny, but very negative. Nate believes he is destined for greatness and everyone around him is an idiot - including his family, teachers and friends. About his father: "...Way to break it to me gently. Nice parenting. "..he's pretty harmless... It's just that Dad's kinda clueless. He has no idea what it's like to be me." Everyone around him gets the same treatment. Nate denigrates the smart, artistic, hard-working people around him. He has terrific self-esteem but always under achieves. He marvels at his good fortune - School Record Holder for Most Detentions. A happy ending.
