well, i was in my classroom, and found the second book. i read it and loved it! except, i havent read anymore. i was just wondering, are all the books linked, or are they all one story? S:
i want to read more, but i also want to know if i should still read the first?
Although content may be a little too violent or gruesome, it will suck in readers with its imaginative voice. Perhaps between ages 9-12, fans of R.L. Stine's Goosebumps will love this book.
Darren Shan is not a perfect hero. He is a very confused young man who just wants to do the right thing. He constantly second guesses his decisions and tries to see both sides of every conflict. An enjoyable journey, but not appropriate for younger children.
i really enjoyed the book and i couldn't myself from reading it. AS soon as i read a cheapter i got more eager and curious about the other so i read it till midnight!
Kids wouldn't understand, vocabulary need upgraded
Good for any age, I said 10+ because I don't think younger kids would understand the story because they wouldn't know what some of the words meant. And there is some swearing, but age ten, there's kids in public schools cussing anyways. Ten is the perfect age to teach your kids that there is such thing as words that shouldn't be used, and you should enforce it by playing by their rules. If they can't cuss, you shouldn't either.
Sure, you're showing them that you have control over them by saying "I'm an adult. I can do it." But that will make them feel like it's the cool thing to do, and that it's alright to do it, because you ARE their role models.
:)
I saw the movie first before reading this book. Darren is a very good role model for many children that look up to teens. Even though our media is so into vampires, this books gives you another view on vampires.
The words are not hard and it's really not that bad of a book.
it was the first actual series i read, i read it when i was 8 but finished when i was 10 for the series. The first book hooked onto me, and i didn't want the series to end.
I give this book like 10/5 stars..
MATT YOU ARE WAYYY OFF ON THE STARS
an entertaining read for tweens that can be hard to put down but its nothing more than that
an entertaining read for the pre-teens but it is not very well written if you have read more intricate stories by more talented authors. but overall it is a fun weekend read for tweens, but the plot is thin and the characters are cliched.
I can honestly say that the saga of darren shan is the best, better than harry potter, better than all the books in the world. I recomend these books to any vampire lovers out there! just try not to get too addicted to them like i did!
I don't know why they count this as young adult. Anyone over thirteen would have to be prepared to die after reading this. It was written so terribly it was pathetic, and while a seven year old might find it scary, anybody much older wouldn't. There are a few swearwords, some people do some weird thing; they're 'freaks' after all, and nothing else, really. I can't begin to recommend this book. It was so horrible!
After reading the second book, The Vampire's Assistant, for a school project, I went back and read the first book. The first and second were so good, I had to read the rest of the series. All of the books were good, excecpt for the last half of the 12 book. It has a horrible ending.
this is such an awesome book, and duh, its about vampires so its obviously not real. this saga is just fine for any kid who wants to read it, unless they are very young, like 10 or younger. matt portrays it as a terrible, greusome book that only has gore and is like a rl stine book. it sooo is not anything like a rl stein book. the series is superb and every1 that reads it gets hooked. i <3 cirque du freak!!!!!
These books are excellent! It does have some language, blood, and gore but the books clearly state they are placed in the horror genre. Horror has this sort of thing. I think Darren Shan is a great author and I highly recommend it to any Vampire fan.
THIS IS GREAT, I'VE READ THEM MYSELF AND I THINK IT TEACHES CHILDREN ABOUT FRIENDSHIP. SURE IT HAS A BIT OF SWEARING IN IT BUT SO WHAT, ITS CONVERTED BOYS TO READING!
