This book is Gold!
Love it. Kinney uses English and grammar appropriately but yet its a fun, engaging read for kids AND adults. I hate those children's books that use "nonsense" language because I don't think its helpful for most kids especially in the age of acronyms and other abbreviations. My 9 year old son read this book in about two days and couldn't wait to get the others in the series. Because of the illustrations, my 5-year old is eager to get started on them as well. Best of all, my nine year old immediately wanted to start his own journal which has helped him with writing and organizing his thoughts.

Love It
- I rate this title on for age 10 and give itMy concerns are:
More appropriate for an older child (10+) has sort of a negative influence .
My daughter is 7 with average reading level skills but some parts of this book were a little too advanced for her to understand (i.e.: Running for student government treasurer). I personally found the book cute and hilarious but it can tend to be pretty negative in some parts.
- I rate this title iffy for age 8 and give itMy concerns are:
- Inappropriate language
I began to read this book before my 8 year old son. I didn't get past Ch. 2 because of the negative language. Idiot seemed to be used quite frequently. I did not allow my son to read it.

Mindless Junk
I can't stand this series nor what it stands for. I know many reviewers wrote that its great for kids who don't like to read, but are we suppose to stoop to allowing our children to read trash just to get them to read? The main character mentions girls' butts, is very negative and disrespectful. Not something I want my kids to imitate. I may be a bit conservative, but there are MUCH better series with positive messages out there. Skip this one.

My Son Loves The Series!
I can never get my 10 year old son interested in reading. Then when other kids at school began reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid he begged me to get him the first book. Before he was finished with the first book, he was asking me to get "Rodrick Rules". He's almost finished with that one, and has "The Last Straw" ready to read. I am so excited about how turned on to reading this series has got him. Bravo!

Great for the kid who doesn't like to read
My son is 8 1/2 and he reads only when required and even then, he uses a timer. He picked up this book and the sequel at the book fair yesterday and has been reading it at every spare moment, even on the bus ride home from school. Any book that can get my non-reader interested in reading is fantastic with me! It is flying off the shelves at the book fair and the kids who have already read it are flocking for the second book.

begins funny and charming, but bad treatment of friend goes on too long
This book starts out funny, clever, and charming - I can see why it's selling so well, as prospective buyers look at the beginning. But...for me, the protagonist Greg's poor treatment of his "friend" Rowley goes on for too long and unrelentingly, so it gets really off-putting by the time you're most of the way through the book. Greg's contempt for Rowley is especially unpleasant. So by the time I got to the end and Greg's supposed "redeeming" act, I no longer liked Greg and I had developed real reservations about the book. The book's origin as a web comic may explain why while the vignettes and episodes are funny (really, very funny!) individually, in the collective they seem to me to be going on too long in the same vein. As a book, there isn't enough arc to the story. Summary: Good drawings well incorporated with the text, very funny episodes, well-observed characters, but overly prolonged poor treatment of a supposed "friend" is off-putting. Those with more of a sense of humor or more tolerance of boys' rough treatment of each other may like it better than I. Better suited for middle school or perhaps later elementary school age.

Great Reading for a kid that hates books
I am a mother that homeschools her 12 year old son and getting him to read is like pulling teeth. I've tried everything including letting him pick out whatever he wants to do book reports on, including a reference book about crystals, but other than looking up information about crystals and precious metals, the boy won't read. Then one day I found this book online and that was it. We're not only reading it for a book report, but we're enjoying it!!! For the first time since he could read the alphabet, he's enjoying a book. Awesome read for kids and parents will laugh too.

A very funny book for all.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a very funny book. It's aimed at kids 9+ but I think that should be lower. The only concern is that some of the role models aren't good. Greg has a bad older brother who gets into trouble sometimes. And there are some kids at Greg's school that aren't nice either. There are some positive messages scattered around the book on the positive side. It's a really funny and great book and I recommend it for children 6+.

This is a good read for everyone!!
Love it! As I said on my profile, I love things that are either funny or cute. This one is both. Jeff Kinney creates a character that all preteens and most teenagers can relate to. The thing we love about this book is that it does have a message, however, it doesn't shove it around in your face like most other books. Jeff Kinney keeps everyone entertained by combining literature with numerous illustrations, and still using 'academic' vocabulary. Anyone who reads this WILL finish it, including my young, book-hating cousin. They can enjoy a few laughs while learning a good (but subtle) message.

Funny But Taking Our Money
I have read all three of the published novels and laughed out loud at a lot of it. However, the elements in it are pretty crude. Things get worse later in the series. Also, there is a whole series, and they just keep coming. Children are spending a lot of their money and their parents on buying these funny books that don't really convey any good messages. Greg's parents do punish him, but he always seems to find a way around it. Iffy for ages 10 and up.

My opinion on Diary of a wimpy kid
I thought this book was a great read and a very well written book i don't think there was anything to rude in the book itself just a good book

BBBBBBBBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTT BBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKK EEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEERRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Parents shouldn't be alarmed because the book is great it is about a unfortunate teen who does a bunch of things that are part of every day life. The lowest age for the book I would recommend would be 8 or 71/2.

The Best Book Ever!!!
It's a great book! I think it might be my favorite although, Greg Heffly (the main character) acts somewhat stupid and he takes advantage of his best friend Rowley. But, the point is just to see him mess up. I started reading these books last year. I always get SO exited when a new one comes out!

Think About It!
Maybe some of the things maybe a little iffy for some kids, but the book always has a good message by the end. Sure Greg does some bad things, but think about it, its from the point of view of a kid, and some kids think that way and do those kind of things.

Funny, Fast Read
The diary of a wimpy kid series by Jeff Kinny are very funny books that make you feel like a speed reader because they have large font and have a lot of big pictures that take up a lot of room.

I laughed soooooo hard!
This is the best book in the world! This is my favorite book! Nothing else is better! Really funny, and is about the life of Greg Heffley. The nerdy-average kid in school. This is how he lives and his big brain and "mistakes" and if this is the way, then this book MUST be good! And it is my favorite book!

This book RULES!
This is one of my favorite books of all time! It's funny, well written, and clever. Since it is written in cartoon form, it appeals to many types of readers, and even people who don't like to read. Read it now if you haven't already!
