i love these books! although Seth is a complete idiot, and stays that way through the series, he ends up cleaning up his messes. he's a terrible role model, Kendra, however lame she is, is a terific role model, and my sister's favorate charachter. there is one scene where Grandpa and the Saytrs are celebrating, and drink a bit.
My teacher has this book in her class and she doesn't think it is that appropriate and I agree with her which is why I think Kids my age should not read this.
I just selected 2 years old for the age cause i think everyone should be allowed to read it...moving on.
This is probably the best series I've ever read. My favorite character is Warren ( the catatonic, Dale's brother) because i like the idea that he has all these compressed emotions under his blank expression because I can relate.
It teaches you that life is not always as it seems, and that sometimes you need to get over your fears to save someone else. Seth and Kendra are willing to save each other's lives and care about each other very much. Best book ever! My 8-year-old sister read it and she LOVED it!
When I read this book it I couldn't put it down. I think I ended up reading the whole thing in a week. I was thinking at the time that it was the best book I ever read. Then I started reading the sequal: Rise of the evening star and REFUSED to pick the book back up after I put it down.
Wonderful Fantasy Book, Even Non-Fantasy People Would Love It
When I read this book, I loved it. It is amazingly enjoyable, and every book in the series gets better than the last. As for the content:
Language: Absolutely none. The kids tease eachother a little bit, but there is no cussing.
Drugs: In the second book (I'm reviewing the entire series) to the last book, there as some "potions" that people can drink that give them "fake emotions" like false bravery, but no actual drug use.
Violence: There is a little bit of violence, but nothing graphic or described.
I really would recomend this book to anyone, no matter what the age. The only possible thing I can think of that some parents may not like is like the CommonSense review states, Seth is constantly disobeying. He does get better at making decisions throughout the books though.
Bottom line, even if you don't like fantasy books, you'll probabl like this. I hate fantasy. XD
this book is one of the best ive read ,once you start reading it you can not put it down!! Perfect for anyone who loves action, adventure, and fantasy should read this book!
This novel I guess was okay. The characters were not really the greatest kids. I probably wouldn't want to meet them. The violence isn't too exciting and isn't really anything new. The plot: Two kids, Kendra and Seth have to spend their summer with their grandparents, who they haven't even met before. Their grandparents end up being caretakers of a magical refuge for mythical creatures such as, witches, fairies, goblins and the like. I guess Kendra and Seth are good siblings, but Seth is way too reckless. I have never, ever met any kid that stupid, or reckless with annoys me a lot. The only reason why I read it was because my Grandmother got for me, and I didn't want to just leave it on my bookshelf collecting dust. After I finished it, I still had a urge to read the rest, so my grandmother got me the next two books, and I really saw the beauty of this series... the excitement, and action that led ahead. I would of given this series two stars, but because I liked the other books, I'll give it one more. Because this review is sappose to be only about the first one in the series, I'll continue talking about the book. So, I guess if you want to get your kid something they'll really read get them a copy and see how they like them... enjoy!
Some of the creatures described in the book may be slightly frightening to younger kids, but other wise this is a great book to read to your kids. Seth and Kendra's grandparents are very positive role models; they constantly try to keep the peace in their haven for a wide variety of magical beings. Seth does break the rules a few times, but he eventually apologizes and is forgiven for what he has done.
I LOVEEE this this book! It might seriously be one of my favorite series ever! Everyone I know loves it, all my friends, my sister and her husband, even my mom and HER friends! But I can see how parents would be concerned about "demons" and such, I've always been aloud to read stuff like that, so my parents were okay with it. I wouldn't suggest this series if you don't want your kids reading that kind of stuff. :) These books are really awesome because there's a little bit of all my favorite things in them, as you get further into the series, Kendra has a love interest, but not at the point of being cheesy. Plus there's just enough fantasy, excitement, cliffhangers, evil characters, and mystery! Every book gets better and better! Like another user said, Seth does a LOT of stupid stuff through the series, he's a pretty bad role model...But Kendra, (His sister) is a very good role model, she's one of my favorite characters! And don't worry Seth finally starts to mature during the fifth book! :)
This book is awesome for ages 9-12! It will also inpress teens! I could not put this book down; it was great! It has a little violence, and it has lots of fantasy animals, but it was cool!
I love fablehaven it's my fav book series can't wait for the 5th! Don't worry about violence for kids above my age. If younger read it first and decide. It's SUCH a good series. I love the fantasy adventure. Each book gets better and the 1st is probobly the worst. SO far ahead of other series! My whole family loves it! Seth DOES learn from his mistakes, just not as fast as you'd think. If you read the others you'll get what I mean. A bunch of my friends read it and love it. My 6th grade teacher got the 1st and 2nd ones. If you're scared of it or your kid tell them to remember it always works out in the end. The scarieness is what keeps you reading. I'd DEFINETLY recomend it.
I think Fablehaven is a AWESOME book that balances adventure magic and plot perfectly. The author came to our school in march this year but our grade (grade 3) could not come!
