What parents need to know

Parents need to know that the writing in this book is simple, but the art -- whimsical black-and-white watercolor illustrations -- enhances the format and creates visual appeal. Kids who enjoy creative activity will love the hands-on, workbook format.

What's the story?

Know a child who's having difficulty with the idea of a big move? By completing fun activities and making insightful entries, school-age children can build a keepsake record of their favorite memories, chronicle the move itself, and sort out an overwhelming range of emotions along the way. A positive beginning to a new life in a new home!

Is it any good?

For kids unfazed by a big move, this book may be unnecessary. But for children who do think moving is a big deal, it offers dozens of ways to ease through all stages of the transition -- from sorting out new and conflicting feelings to recording fond memories of the old home and first impressions of the new one. The book could help transform a harrowing experience into a happy -- or at least bearable -- one.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about moving and how each family member feels about it. It it hard for you to think about leaving your home and going to a new one? Why or why not?
