ah-freakin-mazing
really good book series! plots are fun and do invlove sex, drugs, and alcohol but its not like if i read it in a book im going to honestly think,"hey, nate archibald smokes pot all the time so i should too!" parents should give their kids more credit and let them make their own desicions about what books to read. Its their life!

Authors sick little fantasy, filled with drugs, sex and stereotypes
I read these books in middle school, my mom saw the books lying around and decided to read them. She found them filled with sex, drugs, drinking, stereotypes etc. and told me this was just the authors twisted fantasy that she was living through her books. I saw them from her point of view, and I agree. It's just stupid, and I can't believe I wasted my time on this. As long as you know that none of this is in any way real, your fine.

Loving it.
I love it. If you go in the mind of the caracter you will see that they are vunerable but they hide their feelings behind the partying, drinks and brands.Teens will love it but adults don t understand it. It a real fashion and a good moral role model and it s great..

Read with common sense, and you're fine!
THE STORY: This series follows a bunch of rich teenagers living in New York. There's lots of stereotypes: the perfect girl, her best friend who wants to be queen bee, the wannabe, and a hot guy who is the object of every girl's affections. And who follows all these delightful characters? None other than an anonymous blogger called - what else? - Gossip Girl. HOW APPROPRIATE? These are not books to be taken seriously. There are some non-graphic sex scenes, scenes where the main characters smoke, drink and take drugs, and some raunchy behaviour. There's also some girl-on-girl kissing, which is deemed 'experimentation' by those involved. None of the stuff above, however, is mentioned deeply - it's all very soft, light references. In other words, the book doesn't totally focus on risqué behaviour. I think that as long as you read this series with a pinch of common sense and don't try to imitate the characters, these books are fine for the mature twelve year old and above.

It's good, but not great.
I think the books are good if you have watched the TV series, but you may find it easy to get lost if you haven't. I think that the age rating of 15+ on the back of the books is the right age. I also think that the readers SHOULD NOT but under 14, as they may not realise how stupid some of the things the characters get up to are. I don't think parents should stop their children from reading this because if they think their children are responible and sensible enough, they won't be worried.

I loved the book, i think Serena is a great role model she always is nice to everyone. It has a lot of ;product placement; and makes people wish they could be rich and glamourous like Serena and Blair. Though that is the point of a book to read it and be entertained, not possitive messages.

THIS BOOK MADE ME LOVE READING!!
For my whole life I have always been forced to read boring books. For example, Johnny Tremain, Call it Courage, A Wrinkle in Time, Where the Red Fern Grows, and other "great" books like that. These books basically turned me off to reading until my friend told me about Gossip Girl. For the first time ever, in my whole entire life, my mom had to continue and tell me to shut off the lights and go to sleep because I just didn't want to put the book down. This book, a long with the rest of the series(and The It Girl) contain the perfect amount of sex, drugs, bad language, and parties. I can't wait for the next book to come out!!!

Sex and The City For Teens
I really love these books, because I can relate to the same life styles they have. I dont live in New York but I love the rich and famous life styles. These series are really hooking. When you read them you sometimes cant get out of reading them because they are so good. Yes, there are drugs and alcohol in the books, but when kids are in high school you do encounter those problems. All kids have friends that are also into drugs and violence and stuff like that. This will teach your kids to also not go for jerk friends or boyfriend and girlfriends. This is only for 15 and up. I would totally recommend these books.

Amazing books, not so good image
I'm reading these books right now at thirteen. I'm mature for my age and love books with terrible gossip, and just total guilty pleasure. I started reading them and instantly got sucked in. The characters are terrible rolemodels to say the least but I personally think its good. With Disney shows these days trying to reach out and completely failing at grabbing the ten and up crowd, we need a good book with sex, drugs, and drinking. I'm not saying parents should toss the books at their kids or anything saying 'read!' but how else are we going to learn it? Which is better? Them exploring pornographic/adult content over TV or through a book where your mind creates the images? EDUCATIONAL; Blair cares a lot about her school work. It's a major need for her to get into college. We also learn about the negative side of teen image, instead of untruthful Disney versions. POSITIVE MESSAGES; Although there are few, a couple of the characters realize they have problems. There are also a few notes where it makes you realize how lucky you are not having to deal with that. GOOD ROLE MODELS; Not at all. Sorry, but if you're looking for a good role model go somewhere else. This book is filled with terrible, terrible, terrible role models. VIOLENCE; None at all. SEXUAL BEHAVIOR; Of course! The guys in these books are obsessed with females. Serena has all sorts of sexual rumors going around, Blair wants to sleep with Nate, one character from Nate's point of view of a major turn on because of her breast size. In the 3rd book Blair and Serena go to the beach topless and sooo many other encounters. But actually, there is nothing graphic in these books at all. They don't go into sexual details, it's just infer-able. This is the worst problem in the whole book, besides language. LANGUAGE; talk about language! F-bombs, the a word, b word, every word except the dreaded C one. If your kids are mature enough to know not to use these words they're fine. The words appear a lot but rarely towards another person. PRODUCT PLACEMENT; isn't terrible but is still there. Barney's is mentioned a lot, if that counts. It's their favorite store. DRUGS/SMOKING; Overused. Dan chain smokes to keep up his freelance artist lifestyle. Nate is a stoner. Serena, and Blair smoke. Just about every character gets high once.

Amazzzing!
These books are great. i don't see why everyone freaks out about them. people don't care their kids are reading about vampires, who do it while sucking blood, but kids who have issues that are in a way simillar to every teenage life. great great books.

Great books
The Gossip Girl books are really addicting and good! The author writes really cleverly, and she covers lots of things that teens face in real life (but of course G.G. makes it more scandalous and glamourous!) Yes, there's a lot of sex, drugs, and alcohol, but I think that kids 13 or over hopefully have enough common sense to not follow in the character's steps. Overall, great books!

Great series(:
It's a great series, but not for younger readers. Parents are worried about what their children will learn from this series, but while I was reading the books i realized their lives were ridiculous and that what i am learning is that I will NEVER do those things because the things in the series don't happen to most teenagers. Plus you see the way they act and how they treat each other and most girls would't want people treating them that way so they won't act that way.

...
Since I watch the show, I did decide to check out the books and compare them. On the back of the books, there is a warning that the book is for age 15 +. This I do agree with and think the age rating should maybe be even higher. I read the first 2 books and was able to understand everything that was going on. This included inappropriate language, sexual behavior, inappropriate behavior in general, negative messages, bad role models + drinking and drug use. I think the books present girls who are growing up with bad messages if they are negatively influenced easily. I know, that I am only 13 and read the books but I would never follow how the characters behave or act in the books or in fact the show. I would have to say, even though the show isn't too appropriate, the books are way more inappropriate!
