What's the Story?
In GRUMPY MONKEY DON'T BE SCARED, Jim Panzee, Norman the gorilla, Leslie the giraffe, and other friends are determined to get treats on Halloween night. They set off into the dark jungle and at every turn there are strange noises and smells. Jim's friends try to reassure him but when he sees scary eyes in the darkness, that might be enough to make him turn back.
Is It Any Good?
With a great combination of eye-catching illustrations and funny conversations, this colorful picture book is fun to read alone and delightful to read aloud. It's easy to see why Grump Monkey Don't Be Scared is a bestseller -- with it's lovely combination of silliness and supportive friendships. Young readers won't be worried for Jim, and even though he's worried enough for all his jungle friends, they reassure him that there's nothing to fear. The friends have a kindness in their silliness, a feeling that jumps off the pages with their expressive, colorful faces. A reassuring read for little worriers and great modeling for bold readers who want to help their nervous buddies be a little more adventurous.
