Well...
I think Harriet has low friendship skills, she did not run to aplogise to her friends when she did something wrong. She rudely wrote unessary mean things about her friends and family. I think her nanny Ole golly is wrong that you should leave memorys behind. At Harriets school, she is made an onion for her christmas dinner dance. I believe that this is racist as she was made so becase of her shape. There is lots of body shaming as well, she calls people fat and skinny, pimply, etc. Her father drinks as well as her friends' father. I don't think there is anything good in this book, EXEPT, for the fact that Harriets friend takes care of his father.

The age your kids read this depends on you as a parent
Even though this book now feels like a fever dream for me I can remember bits and pieces vividly. I read this book in grade 2 as it was at my reading level. My mom bought it for me and read it with me I would recommend the book at a younger age if your kid is in to spy’s but I would also say you should be with them. I know it may be hard but don’t make a huge deal out of the part where they use the f word as my grandma did and that only made me want to find the word again if she had told me to just ignore it things would have been fine instead I lied to my mom and moved my bookmark back the chapter I had read. If you want your kids to read it on there own I’d say age 10 but if your willing to watch them as they read it I’d say 6 or 7 would be fine

Harriet-not a role model-but a must on your kid's summer reading list!
This book was pretty good-the Nickelodeon movie was true to it. Harriet is a spy, and does figure out everyone else's secrets, and they eventually take revenge-there is some comic violence and bullying.
Drinking: 1/5 Harriet's father drinks.
Violence: 2/5 bullying, embarrasing secrets, and comic accidents.
Language: 1/5 mean names and a use of 'Lord'.
Romance: 1/5 a girl is said to have ‘grown boobs over the summer’
Good for mature 9+, or 11+

A cool, funny romp
First off, I can see why this is a classic. It's funny, creative, and well-written. Harriet is a fun, relateable character, as is her (boy)friend Sport. I will say that some of Harriet's behavior is unacceptable, like sneaking into people's houses for her spy business, or calling people things like fat, dumb, or ugly in her notebook. If your kids can tell right from wrong, and they like funny, engrossing books, this is for them!

Harriet the spy
Harriet the spy is a good book,I think Harriet is a little mean sometimes. Ole Golly is a great role model, she is smart and nice. The end is also a little strange. Most of the book is interesting and fun, though. I enjoyed this book. I think parents should know that Harriet is a little mean, and there is a couple bad words in the book, but Ole Golly is a great role model. I think it is a good book.

Good book, but Harriet is not the best role model.
I think this book is excellently wrote and in some parts, really hilarious. The pictures in the story are drawn well and are funny, but my friends and I thought some of them looked disturbing or even inappropriate. Even though the story and writing are top-notch, Harriet and her some of her friends are a bit mean or not nice. Harriet lies, spies, and writes down nasty things about other people that might give young readers the wrong ideas. Also, she says d**n and fink. She wants to become a writer, but spying on people is not the right way to do it.

Great book, but Harriet's a little, mean.
I like this book, but sometimes Harriet is a little nosy, and kind of moody. I think anyone 10 and up will be able to understand why, and not to act that way yourself. Besides, who wouldn't be angry if someone read their journal?
I think Ole'Golly is a positive romodle in this story. she always looks on the bright side of things, and is very smart.

Perfect for ages 9-11.
I read this book when I was about 9 or 10. I loved it. I identified with the character. I understand parent's concerns with the book, but kids can understand and judge much more than we give them credit for.
