I am at a Loss for Words To Describe This Book's Brilliance
This is one of my favorite books. The message is powerful and very good. The main character, Ed, is funny and easy to relate to. This book has you in suspense, and you really want to find out what happens next. I would not recommend this book for anybody under at least 13. There is talk of sex, but not in explicit detail. There is violence, such as being threatened with a gun. there are also swears. I loved everything about this book, except the ending seemed a bit rushed. Definitely read this book, it's great.
This book was absolutely amazing. It grabbed me from the first sentence. It really sends a positive message. I just wanted to keep reading, and reading, and reading...and all of a sudden I was done. The plot was exciting, suspenseful, and heart warming. It also has humor which I love. Recommend for ages 15+. Definitely one of the best books out there :)
this book kept me awake, with it's constant twists and turns. It has an excellent plot, and incredible artistry. There's even a love story sort of thrown in there... but not in a discustingly mushy way. This book forces you to think about how much we really do.
This book is a grasping good read that will get your attentions on the line from the beginning. And could never put this book down! definitively the best book i have read. :)
I just recently read this book, and whilst it wasn't as good as Markus Zusak's "The Book Thief," I still thoroughly enjoyed it. There is no doubt that some of the themes in the book are quite confronting, however I wouldn't say that the majority of them are described in overly graphic detail. Mature children would be fine, but I would recommend that parents read it first. I think that despite these themes, the book has a positive message and is one of those that makes you reflect on life. At no time throughout the course of the story was I bored and I never felt as though I could predict what was going to happen next. The only problem I had was that the ending felt a little rushed, however others I know who read it felt that it suited the book perfectly - I guess it is a matter of taste! I found that some of the characters I could relate to easily, and others I felt as though weren't realistic, but it really depends on your lifestyle and outlook on life. There were several times throughout the book where I gave a little sigh of happiness and really felt a connection with the story. I really recommend this book, you won't be disappointed.
It was an awesome book and by FAR the best ive ever read. It really inspired me to dig deeper in life and see all the positives. Ive got all my friends to read it, although there is a bit of bad language and they are good role models, its an amazing book and gives a good moral to life. Reallly recommend!!
i disagree what some people say about how all of the sex talking is bad, im 13 and i thought it was funny how he said some of the things he did. i loved this book.
This is a fantastic book that many people would enjoy. However, there are a lot of adult themes and a part that talks about a violent rapist, although it doesn't go into detail. It is okay for 11+ because they have probably read similar things already and this is an educational book that will teach them to stay away from bad situations like the ones described.
I am the Messenger is a highly informative book in the sense that it correlates the commonalities of everyday life with acts of extraordinary measures. The lead character is a very average person, but he learns that he can make a drastic impact. I think that is a message that should be conveyed more frequently in literature. The characters are easily related to because of their flaws and their diverse and unique personalities, these seem like people you would know personally and by the end of the book, you feel like you do. The book does contain some explicit content in the fact that the lead character's best friend and love interest is frequently engaging in sexual activity and it does show a negative approach to sex, so I wouldn't encourage parents to let their young children read it, only if you feel your children have a clear and proper understanding of sex and wont be effected by such a view would I say anyone under at least 12 should delve into the books material. There are profanities in this book and although this makes people unsure of it's moral, I think that the language and dialect of the characters better brings out and defines their personalities and makes them more believable as real world people. I read this book when I was 14 and I loved it. I found it entirely engaging and wanted to explore more of Mr. Zusak's work. He is now one of my favorite author's I would definitely suggest his books to anyone who asked.
Well i like this book i did not whant to put it down but it had a lot of sex in it and i was only 12 when i read this so it was a little like oh my goodness but. over all i like this book its really deep
I cant believe people write such trash and it actually gets published. This normal guy is "the messanger" after he stops a bank robbery. Hes nineteen and hes an underage cabdriver. language like d**khead, s---, s---head, arsehole, etc are frequently used. The "messenger" is obsessed with his best friend/girlfriend and has many... fantasies. Absolute trash, where did the good, fun, clean stuff go?
The book was fantastic and was perfect for my book report. The ending was actually fantastic contarary to others beleif, I thought it was fit perfectly, but i would have preffered a little more explanation.
Fabulous.
Absolutely Fabulous.
You absolutely have to read this if you enjoy Real-to-life fiction, like I do.
If you liked this book, you'd like The Book Thief and Getting the Girl, Also by the same author.
Also, I suggest that You read the Collection of books By Stephanie Meyer. They are very similar to this book, no only in content, but the fact that the most unexpected things happen. They throw you around and mess with your brain, just like any good book should.
I am 13 years old. When I went to check this book out in my school library, the librarian told me "This is a really weird book, but it's really cool!" What she said was very true. I ALBOLUTELY LOVED IT. Although, this is because I'm 13. I DO NOT recommend it to kids younger than 13.
This is one of my all-time favorite books. It has positive messages, without seeming too preachy. It can, however, be a tad rough at parts, with beatings and talk of sex (though it is never graphic). The bottom line is that, yes, read it, but be wary for young teens.
I really enjoyed this book. I decided to read it after I read The Book Thief (which is also amazing! I have read it twice.) I really like the author. I think this book is good for more mature teens. The one thing that really bothered me was all the language. The characters swear quite a bit. The book still would have been good without it. Also all the talk about sex wasn't necessary. I really liked the main character, Ed. He starts out really lazy and doesn't really seem like the best role modle, but in the end, he ends up doing something important with his life and helps others.
