When you look at the cover of Island of the Blue Dolphins you think, this is definitely not going to be that good of a book. But when you start getting farther and farther, it's a page-turner! The main story of the book is survival. When getting further into that topic, there is some sad things that happen. For example, the father gets killed by the otter-hunters, and the brother is killed by dogs (he is surrounded by the dogs dead). I think that it would be a great read-aloud book to read to your children or the children read the book to the parent. Can be scary at times but it's really good!
I have nothing against this book, but it's a little violent 4 kids under 10. This girl must live alone on an island for almost two decades, and her family is killed in her presense.
This is certainly one of my favorite kid books. Their is some violence which makes it a bit much for anyone under 9. I first read it when I was 10 and recently read it again. It still does it for me every time! Can't wait for my younger brother (8) to read it too!
This book was sad indeed, the book was also a great example of life. Kids should see the world for what it truly is early on. They should be prepared for tragedy. Guess what kids This is life. There it is pals. The book was sophisticated in a sense, I liked it.
This book was certaintly an adventure!! But it was a vilent one. And unbelievably sad. There are many deaths of animals and children. Deaths are described and makes them sound sad and tragic. NOT FOR YOUNG KIDS!
I think this book is a 4th grade level book. You will probly have to read it in 4th grade. it's kind of sad, kind of.........................................scary, i mean, adventurest.
