I was amazed at how amuch i enjoyed this book. At first, it hought that this would be just another boring book that my teacher was forcing my classmates and i to read but as we went farther along in the book, it became more exciting. I was constantly wanting to read that book but i didnt have a copy of it. I was in tears at the end of the book not because the ending was sad or depressing, just simply because the book was over. I would reccomend thiis to all children ages 11+ there was just a little bit of violence but it was because Percy Jackson ( manin character) had to protect himself from the many monster that dared to attack him. I hope that you,the person reading my review, will read the book and the whole series if you already haven't. I am THE BIGGEST FAN OF PERCY JACKSON AND ZELDA IN THE WORLD AND IF ANYONE SAYS IM NOT YOU'RE JUSTIN BIEBER'S BUTT!!! One day my friend told me about this series and i said that's stupid. But i didn't know it would be this good. So i was riding my bike to school and this thing dropped on my head...I looked up and saw nothing. I looked in my hand and saw the lightining thief. I started reading the first five pages just to see how bad it was but then i couldn't stop reading it. Next day i went to the library and got this book called *SPOILER* eleven birthdays. I finished it and i was like this stunk, but the lightining thief rocked. I got eleven birthdays and threw it in my fire place. Then everything went dark! And i was like what the Annabeth? The book was evil! Next day when i came back from school i started reading the sea of monsters when the TV turned on by itself on the news. I was like what the heck this news channel doesn't exist! But it was talking about how *spoiler* these three kids discovered the sea of monsters. I was like OMG it's PERCY JACKSON! I ran to my computer and got an email from a guy named P.J. I kept getting letters from him and in the third he said his name was Percy Jackson. I was like yay. Next day i woke up and this little trident was floating over my head "OMG! I'm a half-blood!" I ran towards this hill but something just stopped me. This girl pulled me back and said not now. It's time to finish the series. So that's what i did.bye bye bye man!!!!! LOOK UP ANCIENT HERO ON YOUTUBE WHILE SAYING MASSICLIK AND READING PERCY JACKSON. YOU WILL DIE OF EPICNESS, MIDNAS!!!! JUST KIDDING!

This is a fantastic book that my son and I both loved (of course I only got to read it while he was sleeping). I love that the characters show that young teenagers can have strong personalities and a real spine without rudeness and bad attitudes. It's very hard to find those examples in the media today. Riordan has the perfect blend of characters in this series- both good and bad role models- they all have their place and they all teach important lessons.

I enjoyed the story, and it's action packed. The biggest problem is with the way the demigods were conceived. There is a lot of talk about the gods sleeping with humans to make the demigods. Until your child is ready to understand babies out of marriage, this book isn't for him.

I have some concerns that the concept of faithfulness in marriage and the family unit are not values espoused here, however I did enjoy the book and think, given the background of having read it myself, my son will enjoy the action and we can discuss the worldly concepts and how they differ from our Christian values and the subsequent consequences that come from this lack of family values.

!st person narrative gives the books an unpleasant tone: kids in a world of their own making, adults virtually absent. Violence replaces real conflict in too many places.

i was a little reluctant to read it during the first chapter, but after that it got better and better to the point where i was begging my mom to get the rest of the books! the movie was awful compared to this!

This was a fun book to read :) Not only did I connect very well to the main character, Percy, and his friend Annabeth, but I really learned a lot about Greek mythology. I thought it was a fascinating plot, very refreshing from the recently cliche Vampire romances coming out since Twilight (by the way, am I the only one who's annoyed at the amount of vampire novels released since the Twilight movies?). Great main character and supporting character, nice Greek mythology references, and an intriguing,refreshing plot add up to a high four stars for Rick Riordan's The Lightning Thief. I'd recommend this book to any child who loves fantasy, so long as they can distinguish reality from fiction, and that's not a problem for most kids. :) I bought it!

its a good book. it might be a little hard for kids to read if their 9 or maybe 10. its not very innapropriate either.yes, there IS fantasy violence but its not very realistic, mostly heroes killing monsters with swords and knives. another good thing is so far they havent made a bunch of junk like percy jackson legoes, action figures, videogames(except one) or any lame miniseries on TV.
