Parents Beware!
Storyline did not interest me as an adult reader. Teens and preteens would probably like the storyline, unfortunately there is content that is, in my opinion, way too sexually explicit. I'm not even comfortable with my 15 yr old reading it. It really is just the one scene but it is referred to throughout the book.

If you ahve a life, if your mature, and you want to read a good book you can relate to. A-friggn-mazing!
First off, let me exclaim that YES, I am CATHOLIC and this whole story made me laugh and I love it to pieces. With that being said, I am not in any way shape or form offended by the way P.C & K describe 'the People of The Faith'. Hello! Most of what they do is true and the way of thinking is common through some ‘super-religious’ people. Now I'm not saying they are narrow minded- but has ANYONE considered that this 'group' could be a CULT? Yes, I said it. A CULT! That does mean that certain people can think a certain way and have their own faith. And yeah, cults are just made up about a whole bunch of stuff. Hello, being Christian, isn't that part of being one? Ahem "cult? ?/k?lt/ Show Spelled[kuhlt] Show IPA –noun 1.a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies. " dictionary.reference*/browse/cult that's where I got that reference and ye there is a whole bunch more part of the definition. Anyway, have read every book and I'm currently counting down the days until the next one comes out. They are SO well written and the images that you can make in your head from reading the amazing descriptions is wonderful. YES there is sex YES there is alcohol YES drugs are mentioned BUT HELLO! WAKE UP WORLD! THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! If any other teenager can argue against this and tell me that they have NEVER EVER seen, done, or knows a friend who has, you live in a freaking bubble and you really don’t have a life. To be honest. They teach you in school about ALL OF THIS! ‘Sex is bad’ ‘drugs are bad’ ‘don’t drink it can ruin your health’ YES YES YES AND YES!! ALL TRUE! I have NEVER smoked in my life, drink because I am of age and having sex is your decision – even though you should wait for your prince/princess. This book is giving the RALITY of life around a teenager. You go to your high school, look across the street, look under the bleachers, check bags and lockers, even go into the firggn bathrooms! Everything is everywhere and being in high school you will see it all. Going into the world for crying out loud! You will find and see it. And hell yeah it’s bad, but it’s just facts. I don’t know what perfect-caker-town exists in the real world. Nothing is perfect. When you read this book you can relate to one thing or another. There are SO may scenarios and crazy events that take place in this series that SOMETHING has to relate to you somehow. And that’s EXACTLY what P.C & K want!! Their showing the TRUTH! What teenagers REALY do, how they REALLY ACT and how they REALLY talk. No one can tell me that they haven’t ever swore, or drank, or even smoked? PARENTS! WAKE UP! THIS IS REALITY CALLING! We teens KNOW what’s going on. We see media and we DO understand. We KNOW drugs are bad, skipping class is bad, drinking is bad. And people make the decision to go against what their parent’s wishes are. This book shows so many different ways that a teenager’s life can twin – with the added smack of being Vamp. Amazing, amazing story. I cried and I understood how the characters felt. Throughout the entire book. If people are ‘grossed out’ and ‘disappointed’ with the way P.C & K write – THEN DON’T READ THE BOOK! Before you read a book, take some time and do some research. Don’t like it don’t read it and DO NOT bash an author’s amazing work. I am an obsessive writer myself and I know what it’s like when people read what I wrote and TOOK THINGS THE WRONG WAY or took things to the EXTREAM. Which was never needed. I think people should just RELAX, take a chill pill and avoid books that they don’t like. End of story.

14 Plus is pushing it.... I would say that this book is for 17 plus...
This book is located in my 14 year old's 8th grade school library. A library which 6th graders also have access. I read the book. While I enjoyed the book, I would not recommend it for young teens. It mentions oral sex and the slang term for that on 6 pages. It contains reference to, and the slang term for it, a female piercing in the nether region once. It says the "f" word on 7 pages. It says "sh*t" on 13 pages. Sex is mentioned on two pages. References to pot, weed, etc. on 4 pages. "B*tch" is on 10 pages. "H*ll" is on 66 pages. It has references to and describes cult behavior and cerimonies on numerous occasions. One of the male characters is openly gay. This is not so much a reveiw as a warning to parents to read this book before you decide to allow your children to do so. You may like the book, as I did, however, you may not approve of your teens reading it without some supervision and discussion...

Not appropriate for anyone below high school age
I have read this and will not put it in my classroom library for my 8th graders. The opening chapter involves a girl walking up on another girl performing oral sex on a boy in a school hallway. The words the girls call each other are derogatory and unnecessary. There are too many good books out there for middle schoolers to be wasting their time with this one. Regardless of what we think they have heard or seen at home on the internet and t.v., we need to think about what we provide for them to read in our own classroom libraries. Also, as a parent, I wouldn't want my almost-13 year-old daughter reading this when there are so many other quality books available.

depends on parent consent.
Though there are "teen" or "adult" situations with in the series of the house of night, the books are great and fairly easy to read and somewhat easy to understand.

Perfect for tween girls 12+!!
Unfortunately for me, I'm 22, and am far too old to appreciate the teeny-boppy story line for this book. I wouldn't say it was inappropriate for teens, young or old, at all. In fact, it would be perfect for a 12-16 year old girl. At the end of the day it really talked about faith, believing in yourself and learning to trust your friends. It just said it in a way that would attract young attention. It also talks about discrimination issues, bullying, and really pushes an anti-drug view. (All you parents out there would love that!) If you accept the fact that, yes, your 12 year old child knows swear words (whether you like it or not), and yes, they know about sex too, then your child will probably appreciate this as a gift greatly. It does have some blood here and there, but it would be silly to write a vampire series and not have blood involved, now wouldn't it. - Harry Potter delves into much darker places. Having been a fan of classic vampire books, I was glad to see that the vampire characters didn't sparkle. Which is important. If you're given the book, and your age 18+, I say go and trade it in for a better book... But if your in your young teens, you'll love it.

Too much sexual content.
I read this book about a year and a half ago when I was 21 and some of the content actually made me blush. I don't believe this appropriate for a young impressionable tween by any means. Its highly sexual, (And believe me, it gets worse as the books go on, I've read up to #6) and naturally, if a young girl read's the first then she'll want to continue reading. As far as the writing goes, I didn't think it was necessarily educational in any way. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone under the age of 17. That might sound extreme but I think society has normalized a lot of sexual content and geared it towards young adults, which I don't necessarily think is right, and this book is an example of that. Those parts were not necessary; I don't think the story would have suffered severely without them.

Mom should read first
Its a good book. I have a mature 11yr old and most books that are rated 13-17 have been ok for her. She bought this book while at her cousins and read it the same day. I read it later b4 buying the rest of the series and I was horrified at the sexual references and phrases like corn cob up her skinny anus. I will allow her to read the rest of the series AFTER I censor it myself. I don't understand why the author felt she had to include some really..in my daughter's word "gross" content. The story really is good for young girls and the main character has so far been a good role model, but seriously viewing oral intercourse or reading about it as a 13-15 year old is pretty much criminal in my opinion. Disappointed

Do you like to read books about love, betrayal, hatred, and friendship. Well then the House of Night novels is a great series of books for you to read. Every page is full of something that every person can relate to. These books are based on real teenage drama with a strange unnatural twist. The author makes each character have their own distinct personality, and the amount of descriptive words used in the text, paints an amazing vivid picture in your head of the point the author is trying to get across. This author is very creative, and has a wonderful imagination, and knows just how to put her words so that you never want to put your book down, or stop reading.

My new favorite series!
It was amazing the entire series is amazing. It moves very quickly and while she puts down the People of Faith very frequently it as much as dissolves masked by bigger problems very quickly in the later books...I think it was no longer mentioned by about the 3rd book (7 are out with an 8th on the way). I really don't see the goddess worship as a big deal and it is later described as similar to catholicism. Once you get past the initial religious stuff and get more into the characters it is more of a mobile to the story than a prominent factor.

Fine for more mature teens, tweens should avoid
I read this book because I wanted to read a new vampire series. I thoroughly enjoyed the Twilight saga (have read each book nearly three times...currently working on Breaking Dawn) and the Vampire Academy books. I knew the House of Night was popular as well and wanted to find out why. The authors keep you intrigued as they introduce new obstacles for Zoey and her friends to overcome in each book. I do not like that Zoey lies or offers up half-truths often, though she mostly does it out of concern/safety for others. She learns the hard way she needs to be honest and trust those who care for her. Her desire to do what is right and see the good in others is her best quality. However, I will not allow my daughter to read it because of the sexual references. She will not be allowed to read the subsequent books either as they progress further in sexual content. I am quite protective of what my children are allowed to read, watch, or listen to in the way of sexual content. Today's children and teens are bombarded with far too much. The religion described in the book may offend some Christians (I am a totally sold-out, believer in Jesus Christ and fool for God!!!l). I first wondered if P.C. and/or Kristin Cast were slamming the Christian faith. I came to the conclusion that she is right about any religion/cult that treats others the way the "People of Faith" do. We know there are many people of faith out there who slander God's name with their behavior and speech. True followers of Jesus Christ (though not perfect because no one is perfect) are not like the People of Faith, so no offense should be taken.

perfect for advanced readers, esp girls
I love it, and so does my dad. Yeah so what if there is another religion, it helps teach kids to accept other religions, even IF she thinks her stepfathers church is narrow-minded, and I'd agree from reading ALL the books. He's got her mother so wrapped around his pinky, that she won't even see her without trying to badmouth her and tell her that she's wrong etc without loving her child no matter what. Once you read the book, you'll see what I mean.

I'm not quite sure what it is about this entire book series, but I can't get enough of it! The characters are quite relatable, as teens, not as vampires, so much so, that sometimes I forget that they are vampires! Its unique because Zoey Redbird may have a load of trouble going on in her life, a lot more than... Bella Swan, for example, but Zoey doesn't spend all her time emoing it out, she just gets on with it. I think thats what makes the series so likeable.
