This is perfect for our household, because it is not as deamonized as things such as Twilight and Harrry Potter, which I will NOT allow in my house. Maximum Ride offers a clean, family friendly series that my children and I enjoy. There is no cursing, no sex, or other unholy behaviors performed by the protagonists that is not nessacary to survival. The main girl, Max, takes on at the mere age of 14 responsibility for her entire "flock", or family, while she herself is just a child. Her courage is admirable and willingness to search after he captured sister suggests a nice, wholesome young women well on her way to overcoming the obstacles ahead. While I do not agree with the violence, it is not half as bad as those awful Harry Potters, which encourages demonic practices, or Twilight, in which demons run around unchecked among us. As a conservative christian mother of 6, I highly recomend this series to other women looking for their children to read clean, friendly material suitable for pre teens and older.
I personally think this is a great series to get kids into. It has characters you'll remember and teaches a strong family bond. Yes there is a lot of violence in some parts, but what tv show doesn't? Truthfully if I had children I would let them read it as young as 7. The first book would be fun to read as a family. While later on into the series, *SPOILER* crushes start to begin and with that comes the whole teenage angst story. Nothing goes further than kissing though and and overall it's a memorable book.
I, personally love this book, and the rest of the series. I think it's great for any ages, but you have to consider the maturity of the child. For example, my (very mature) 6 year old and 8 year old read the manga version of this, and loved it!
I have read the first two books (Angel Experiment and School's Our Forever) and thoroughly enjoyed both. I have to say that these books are made for young adults (16 yrs and up). If you go into a bookstore they can be found in the area where the young adult books are. These books are meant to be read by young people as they do have a very science fiction outlook. If your kids are well rounded and grounded in reality, this little trip into a fantasy world won't be an issue. If your teen is predisposed to flights of fancy or already a handful, I don't advise letting them read these books.
You say that there is violence, but COME ON who is'nt mature enough to handle reading about a fistfight? you say "social behaviour" is bad, but who bases their behaviour on a stupid book?
The stories are far-fetched but hugely entertaining. Any author that can write an age/material appropriate series that has my 10 year old wanting to read more, is fantastic. I read the entire series with my daughter and we had a great time and a lot of good conversations about the content. Very quick reads and a lot fun in each story.
Great series, careful of the violence with easily-scared kids
I am an EXTREMELY picky mom (for example, there's absolutely no way I'll let my kids read the Twilight series until they're 15 or 16, and we have no TV) - I'll just say that right up front. My daughter is 11, and a very innocent 11, but I didn't think the kiss was too much. I also didn't think the violence was too much, though there was a lot. I would recommend this book for 12+-year-olds, give or take, depending on what they've been exposed to, but I'd especially recommend it for reluctant readers (exciting, very short chapters).
Excellent book. Great discussion source. Highly Recommend
To start with, I have personally enjoyed this series. Next, I have to disagree with nevadamistermom's review. I find this series of books a wonderful resource. I am a Junior High Youth Leader and we have read this series as part of our youth group weekly meetings. nevadamistermom stated that, "...it's even OK for them to have sex with one another." This is inaccurate. In book 3 the 2 oldest characters kiss. Nothing more. Are we so prudish that we don't think a 15 year old boy and girl would not kiss?
Nevadamistermom also states that they "flock" do, "...whatever they want, living parent-less ..." This was a great discussion point with my kids. I pointed out that in the beginning of chap. 51 Max states, "I was consumed with curiosity. Parents were something we obsessed about, talked about constantly, cried about -- if truth be told". As a Youth leader, this led to discussion about family, responsibility, values, morals, teachers, orphans, war-orphans, homelessness. I have found so many ways to use this series. I highly recommend it.
Great story, bit violent....know your kids before allowing...I allowed!
Can get violent, but the entire story is so fictional any reasonable 10 year old could get it. The movie however would have to be pg-13 for violence only...if it becomes one...I hope.
My kids loved it...even the 7 year old that listened to the audiobook on a long road trip.
Books 1 and 2 are our favorite but loved the entire series. The sex is just a kiss and minor ones...if I recall right only the last book has a kiss more than a peck. I think my kids are mature enough to handle it. And I'm pretty picky. I watched and read Twilight before I allowed my 11 year old...and she isn't going to be able to read Breaking Dawn till about 14-15 if that helps you to know where I stand on these things.
Maximum Ride the Angel Experiment by James Patterson is about a group of mutants with the same mutation,THEY CAN FLY!!! The only down side to having wings is that people are out to get them. People such as the Erasers the minions of the white coats who try to capture,Max Iggy, Nudge, Angel, Gasman, and Fang. The white coats want them so they can conduct horrible experiments on them so they can find out what they did to make them so they can use it for their own gain. Maximum Ride is an action packed book full of mysteries and evil scientists I reccomend this book to anyone who loves mutants, action and mysteries to all ages Maximum Ride is TRULY an amazing book by James Patterson.
I think this is the best book i've ever read in my whole 70 years of reading expeirence. I recomend this book to all ages 7+. adults will want to read it over and over, and children will have a great relationship with it.
this is a fantastic book!!!!!!! i dont see anything wrong with it at all!!! the times have changed , and you have not. some things people need to know, just saying..
