Parents need to know that this is adventure fantasy with danger and some violence, including murder attempts and kidnapping. The author's idea of the future includes a flu outbreak that kills millions and disastrous effects of global warming.
Molly Moon has to find her missing brother. Together with her best friend Rocky and dog Petula they journey through time to find out who took her twin and how to get him back. Along the way they witness global warming and run into an evil princess.
MOLLY MOON, MICKY MINUS, AND THE MIND MACHINE is the fourth book in the Molly Moon series, and it's a fast-paced, harrowing, wild ride. Georgia Byng has a terrific imagination: The characters, their outfits, and how the world looks in the future are all so detailed that readers will be delighted and horrified at the same time.
On the minus side, there's so much information to absorb, yet the quick tempo doesn't give readers much time to pause and really process it. Much like Molly, readers will feel out of sorts and rushed, though they will truly enjoy when Molly rises up and meets the challenges that had her on the ropes. All in all, this is a great read.
Families can talk about a whole range of topics: adoption, global warming, epidemics, genetic engineering, and even the importance of family and forgiveness. Why does Molly work so hard to help Micky? What do you think about the author's picture of the future?
