The Penderwicks is a very exciting and adventurous book. I thought that it wouldn't be a good book before i read it, but it turned out to be a very enjoyable read. You may not like it if you only like action-packed books, but otherwise, it is a must-read!!!
The Penderwicks is probably the best book I have ever read! It is about four sisters and their widowed dad who rent a summer house and face many different adventures together. Throughout the summer, they grow colser to each other and even discover a little more about each of themselves. This book is extremely family friendly, and enjoyable to everyone. I am happy to say the sequel is also just as good. I would just love it if they turned this book into a movie!
Fantastic wholesome book for kids & grown ups of all ages. We listened to it on a road trip and my 5 & 7 yr olds laughed at the escapades, my 9 yr old would beg us to turn it back on and even my 2 year old laughed at the dog's antics. Not to be missed are here references to (and recommendations for) old-fashioned classics. I have read the 2 following books and found them just as good, if not better.
This book is a wholesome, enjoyable literary gem that I will read to my children. It has a true meaning of what a family should really be, opposed to the "I hate my family," type of books these days. This book will always remind me of my childhood. The girls respect each other, even though they have a few scuffles, they always pull through. Rosalind is a mature teenager that is responsible, caring and over all, a great role model. Skye is a little head-strong, but she would do anything for her sisters. Jane is a little poetess who is an aspiring writer-to-be, she is kind to her sisters and loves them dearly. Batty is a sweet child who's imagination can get her into mischief sometimes. And last of all is the father, who respects, loves and is deeply interested in his daughters. These characters are etched into my heart forever. This book should be reserved on your bookshelf between "Little Women," and "All-of-a-kind-family!"
Hats off to you Jeanne Birdsall!
This was such an amazing book. I really, really loved it. I think I've read the Penderwicks about 6 times now. This book is written well, and you come to love the characters. Something worth adding to your personal library.
My nine year old daughter (who is very innocent and doesn't even know what swear words are) said she loved this book! Her friends all read it and loved it too! I have not read it but she talks about it a lot!
In the book, "The Penderwicks" Jeanne Birdsall shows that you must live your own life, never allowing anyone else to make decisions for you, or you will never be happy with yourself.
This is an excellent book! Can be read over and over again! The Penderwicks do act rashly sometimes, but they make up for it. Rosalind is a good role model, because of how well she takes care of Batty. Rosalind develops a crush on Cagney, but of course nothing happens. Young kids may be mildly scared by a mean bull, or scary Mrs. Tifton. Jane call the soccer ball Edwardian insults. A must read.
Ok so this book is really for any age i read this book and loved we also had the audio book of it so we listened to it on a family road trip. I have a four year old brother who came along some parts he couldn't follow but overall he loved it! But now he sometimes goes around the house yelling "Git Git Git!!!!", Oh well.
This book is appropriate for all ages. Let me repeat, all ages. I put 5+ because the 3 year olds may not understand, but there is nothing inappropriate about this book at all.
