Do you think cell phones can help you teach?

Texting like it's your job?

Researchers at the Joan Ganz Cooney Center came out with a study in January that calls on educators, researchers, and the government to find ways to incorporate mobile technology -- like cell phones -- into the classroom. What do you think?

Uhh....as much as I like my cell phone, not really, at least not in a major way. Our school's tech program does however give out Ipod Touches for the year for us to use, provided you are in the right class to use them with. Its a nice little perk, and helps students keep up on today's technology, and allows those who might be too poor to afford one to get a bit of experience as well.

Jadore La Vie brings up a good point about the so-called digital divide. Schools can't begin to incorporate cell phones into their lessons unless they will be providing each child with a cell phone to use.

On the other hand, mobile digital technologies are gaining ground and as they move towards ubiquity we will see schools and teachers making more and more use of them. I think this is a good thing, as long as it is done in well thought out manner. When tech-savvy teachers embrace technology they help provide kids with the opportunity to innovate and excercise their 21st century skills in new ways. I got university lectures as video podcasts and found that pretty useful!

Libraries are digitizing and soon classrooms will too. Read about ipods in schools at www.superprodigy.com/parentscorner/education/ipods-in-school-books-vs-by...

Does this mean that teachers would be teaching through texting??? I don't agree at all if this is the case. Shockingly, not everyone has a cell phone! I got my first one in december, and I love it. Also, a point to bring in to consideration, not every one has unlimited minutes! I mean, If teachers text kids reminding them about an upcoming assignment due date, and a child has already done that, a text is wasted, whether or not he/she has unlimited! And finally, I think the introduction of cell phones to kids under seventh grade is irresponsible. Go figure!
