    fine for older teens.

Bioshock is a game that separates itself from other first person shooters, not only through gameplay, but also in the fact that it has deep philosophical ideas in it. It shows the aftermath of a society that has been completely free, no regulation, which ultimately became its downfall. Plasmids, which are a key part of gameplay, give people powers such as control of electricity, fire, ice, and telekinesis, just to name a few. But overtime they warp peoples minds and essentially drive them to do whatever it takes to obtain adam, which is the substance with which you obtain new powers. despite the adverse effects, the leader of the city refused to ban plasmids, and thus everyone in the city just became junkies killing each other for a fix. I wont talk much more about the story because it would take way too much time to explain, but all in all the game has an enthralling story with many twists and turns and philosophical concepts, which is why i gave gave it the logo thing for educational value and message. for the content of the game itself it is very bloody with the occasional grisly, or disturbing image. One of the villains has a collection of bodies which are speared into columns in a room of one level. the bodies were of the people who tried to kill him before the player. the player can burn, electrocute, and freeze enemies, among other things. as drugs, you stab yourself in the are with giant syringes to gain power, you can drink or smoke, however doing so will have an adverse affect on either your health or power. there are a few sexual references. language is strong but not excessive. this game is fine for older teens 16 or 17 and more mature 15 year olds.

One of the best games Ive ever played.

This story driven shooter is NOT for kids. A lot of blood and gore, constant violence, some terror and fear, some sexual references, and the use of some "plasmids", although taken like a drug. Very, very good game. A MUST PLAY for anyone that's mature enough.

one of the best not for kids though

in this game you are the sole survior of a plane crash somewhere in the atlantic ocean lucky there is a random light house and go inside on the trip down to the secert under water city you learn it was made to be the scientific powerhouse of the world but once you reach there you find out it is overrun by splicers who are jacked up on adam the mood of the game is really scary and not for the fieght of heart gruesome sceans and scary memories that you listen to on the audio tapes all around town scariest moments you will see are in the very begining of the game there is a women singing a lullaby to something in a baby carriage turns out to be a pistol or when you meet the crazed plastic surgen if you listen to the tapes he makes sense which is the scarist part all in all this game while the main choice is about the girls there is many deeper messages on freedom of choice knowing to much and care

Outstanding, but absolutely for adults only.

Children can certainly wait until they are old enough to handle this superb title. The clear objectivist societal explorations would be entirely lost to a player without the maturity to understand them. Further, with the game addressing a fallen, often eerie and frightening, civilization, and being presented in such a masterfully immersive and atmospheric way, this game provides a profoundly disturbing experience even for adults. The game contains graphic violence, some infrequent but graphic and disturbing sexual content, frequent strong language, significant portrayals of drug use, and portrayals of dangerously and disturbingly deranged people. So, while this game is one of the best in recent memory, it is, in every way, not for children.

    Good game for older gamers.

Im 23, and i find that this game is very graphic, honestly one of the more realistic shooters, as far as blood and death. I don't think this game is appropriate for anyone under 17. I personally have a blast playing games like this but I would never let my children see it.

    Great game But VERY violent

I rented this game the day it was released(august 21) and this game is great. The graphics are amazing and so is the storyline. Not for younger kids this game is brutally violent. You can beat the dead bodies on the ground and see blood fly off. Also, in part of the game you go into a strip club and get led by a ghost of a stripper to a bed were she is laying there after being brutally murdered. If you wander around in this game you can find many more disturbing images such as a man who is handcuffed to a bed and is dead. There are a few usages of the f word but they are rare and when spoken muffled. During the course of the game you can drink and smoke. When you drink to much you get blurred vision. You are constanly stabing yourself with needles so if you are afraid of needles don't play this game. Overall a great game. Must play.

    Great Game, Excellent Story

I mainly felt compelled to write this review to help steer language concious people away. It's a great game and if you don't mind or can ignore the language than this is a definite buy. However, the Common Sense review stated there were no F or S words, when in fact there are. Perhaps I was more aware with subtitles turned on. While the Sh- word was rarely used, the f-word is used a minimum of fifteen times (though zero uses in the first couple hours of gameplay). Also, though the idea that the little sisters are dying from a result of your harvest is disturbing, the animation associated with it is not nearly as controversial as I thought it would be. In the end, saving the little sisters is much more satisfying (there a multiple endings and the good ending is multiple times more fulfilling than the bad).

    Just and FYI

Just tought that i'd mention that Bioshock is also for the PlayStation3. I just love pointing out holes in things like that. Don't know why I'm typing this? look at the top of this webpage and you'll see it says, and I quote "(2007, Video Games - First Person Shooter, Rated M, Play it on: WINDOWS,XBOX360)"!! How do they miss something like, oh, I dont know, the fact that they are missing a whole system that you can play this god of a game on. Ah, whatever, I'll never understand the capitalist types...

    Absolutely the best game ever!

Absolutely best game I have ever played. This game features multiple endings to an already intriguing storyline. I think this game takes FPS (first-person shooters) to an entirely different level. The controller is almost impossible to put down. The game does an excellent job of keeping suspence through the roof and startling moments just at the right time. This game is made by 2K and Havok, who have also made "The Elder Scrolls" series, which come in as a close second to this game. I think when it comes to violence and blood, I thknk this game just pushes the boundaries from "setting the stage" to "overly exaggerated". However, it is not a game I would want to play alone in the dark. I have beaten this game in three times, each time experiencing the alternate endings, and I have to say, it is my favorite game ever.

This is one of my FAVORITE GAMES EVER!!!! but i should warn parents that it is sometimes very bloody and disturbing, with normal blood and gore, throughout, very scary sometimes, a few sexual themes, and some moderate language (oh and use of adam wich is supposed to be a fake drug that makes you superhuman, but eventually drives you insane and deforms your body. splicers are basically the citizens of rapture, horribly disfigured and madened over adam (your main enemies) Mature Themes and Gore make this an iffy one.

Great for teens plus, and awesome game.

BioShock is an amazing game. Anyone from the age of thirteen to whatever age people play games up to will enjoy this game. Provided you don't scare easily, you will be able to play this game for hours. Violence is an issue, with people regularly dismembered during the course of the story. At the start of one level, you stumble upon a man who has been stuck to a board with various surgical tools while a river of his blood floods the street. During the game you have the option to kill or save mutant little girls called Little Sisters. Killing them is more instantly rewarding, but saving them will work out better over time. The story line is amazing and will have you on the edge of your seat. I don't want to give too much away, but plot twists and horrific realizations will have you flinching and have your heart beating as you wander the darkened rooms of Rapture.

    Don't you read those spoilers!

BioShock is an excellent game, but I think it is overrated. Anyway, if you ever intend on playing BioShock, do not go online looking for spoilers. I was trying to clarify some plot points online, and I came across a few spoilers accidentally, and that kind of ruined my experience.

    Amazing

This game is great. But i feel i need to clear some things up you do not turn the little sister's into slugs so "pk read pk" check your facts. It is a story driven shooter and the story is marvelous. The violence is strong but about as bad as a resident evil game. The language is used at times to indicate anger or frustration. Sex is in a broken down strip club but nothing happens Drugs..... the plasmids may be counted as drugs???

    truly emersive gameplay.

Listen, im 16, and it seems like everyone thinks that we are only attracted to games because of theyre violence, sex , and the gratification of doing harm to others. but i love Bio-Shock because its one of the first games in awhile to truly emerse me into a compelling and innovative story. Yes this game may have some pretty graffic violence and language, but if you look deeper than its bare appearance, than youll find a strage and unseen world teeming with moral choices to test even the most unbaised person. all im saying, is please dont simply demonize a game because of its ratings or its first glimpse gameplay mechanics, overall this is one of the best games ive ever played in all my years as a hardcore gamer. Thank you :Lance7

One of the best games ever made

Bioshock is for sure THE MOST unique game ever made. It is a 1st person shoter that takes place underwater. However, I would only recomend it to teens who can handle it. I know me and a ton of my 13 year old friends own this game. But, me and my friends ulually play more mature games like bioshock, fear 2, and Halo 3, even though we are 13. So I would only recomend parents to let their kids get this game if they know their 13+ kid can handle it. Its not as violent as, lets say FEAR 2, but its highly grraphic.

Great game, but too scary for anyonw 10 years or below

Bioshock is a great game, but it is very violent and creepy. Enemies do swear, but rarely. It is...um...creative to say the least. You can think of many ways to take on enemies, from electro shocking water, to setting them on fire, to hitting them with a wrench, to shooting them, to setting them against each other, having insects swarm into them, etc. The blood isnt that creepy, and looks like raspberry jelly (seriusly) but the enemies are all deformed and mental. They have disfiguring scars, welts, some have no skins, and they go around killing there friends and family. They also show how mental they are through there actions. One woman is seen cuddling a revolver and singing to it like a baby, and others are seen threating to hurt Little Sisters, or small girls with needles who take adam, an energy source, from dead people. There are many drugs in this game, and decisions wether or not to kill the Little SIster. If you do, you will recieve a "bad ending" for the game and feel guilty. This is a great game if you can handle it, which i can, even thouhg i am 11.

    SO SCARY

To start, I am 13, maybe too young to play this game, but I will say it's ok if you really think you are mature enough. I never get scared of anything, but this game scares me so badly. F**k is uttered a couple times, and a couple other words, but cursing isn't a problem. It is quite violent, people come at you very close, and one way to kill them is a wrench, and that can get pretty bloody. You also must choose to save or kill a "little sister" (very creepy little girls that appear throughout the game) and when you do choose to kill them, your character holds her (she screams its pretty gruesome) and takes out a weird snake type thing. On the bright side, for most of the death of the little sister, the screen turns green and you can't see much at all. She also has a friend called a "big daddy" that is a robot with a giant drill for an arm that will hurt you. You have to kill him (no blood, just fire) and the little sister is crying. (I don't know why, but she calls him bubbles) The scary part is at many points of the game, your controller is shaking, the room is foggy, the room is shaking, and a bunch of people are coming at you. The game can get very scary even for me.

    Great, thriller role playing game.

This game is great! It does drop the f-bomb quite a bit, and several other "bombs" but overall, its a fast pace scary game. The "big daddy's" are terrifying! You find creepy twists and turns. Bioshock also uses "drugs" to genetically engineer the player to make them stronger and do superhuman things.

    A phenominal game.

This game is brilliant. It's a must buy for horror-shooter fans, but it has a few twists. I'm 13 and have managed to fully complete the game multiple times, and I beleive anyone my age or over that is mature can probably handle this game. Since most popular shooting games are very violent, I would say the actual amounts of blood is fine, but is done in a very brutal manner. You can hit people with your wrench repeatedly, whether it be something living or dead, with bloody marks where they are hit. Burned corpses are very detailed, with lots of charred flesh. Most people my age that I know are actually fine with this. However, it does have a very strong horror element. It is a very strange game, and is the scariest game I've ever played. (And also it's scarier than any movie I've seen). I can't really describe how it is scary, unfortunately. My 10-year-old brother refuses to play this game unless I am sat next to him, to prove that it isn't really suitable for him. But if you are 13+ and can handle it, I'm sure you will enjoy this great game.
