Common Sense Note

Parents need to know that this racing game is based on the movie of the same name. THQ lists this software for ages 4 and up, but most of these activities are too hard for kids as young as 4. This software is a better choice for kids ages 7 and up who like a wide variety of arcade-style games but aren't looking for full-fledged racing. Some of the games are significantly harder than others. The games do challenge players to use their memory and logic skills.

Families can talk about which activities their kids like. Is it because it features their favorite character, or is it because they like the activity? What's the attraction of playing games based on movies?

Common Sense Review

Reviewed By: Jinny Gudmundsen

Not to be confused with the Cars PC game offered at Target, CARS RADIATOR SPRINGS ADVENTURES is an activity center for younger kids that offers 10 widely different games.

While kids will race cars in this software, the racing controls have been simplified to accommodate younger players. Even so, while THQ lists this software for ages 4 and up, most of these activities are too hard for kids as young as 4. This software is a better choice for kids ages 7 and up.

The 10 games tap into many different skill sets and are somewhat uneven in difficulty level. In one race, kids move the mouse to change lanes and click it to jump over obstacles; in another, they shift gears by clicking when a gauge moves into the green zone.

Others are harder. One game asks kids to use logic to rearrange parked cars and trucks to make a path to exit the drive-in theater. In another, they use their memory to help organize items in Lizzie's Curio Shop. Still other games test hand-eye coordination and the ability to maneuver the computer mouse.

In the end, fans of the movie who are looking to do more than race are likely to enjoy this title.
