DDR Max 2 - E
Common Sense Note
This title not only gets kids off the couch, but it's a social game that may be best enjoyed when played with friends or families. There is a workout mode that keeps tracks of calories burned -- so parents, don't be shy about taking your turn!
This fun title is appropriate for all ages though children under 8 may lack the coordination, or the size, to work the large dance pad.
You may want to talk to your kids about how this game is different from other popular titles (like Grand Theft Auto, etc.). What are some other ways that games can be good for kids and teens?

You may have seen Dance Dance Revolution devotees dancing (and sweating) it up your local arcade. Now is your chance to try to imitate their sensational stepping in the privacy of your own home.
Basically, it works like this: You stand on a gigantic dance pad that has four arrows (up, down, left and right). You choose your song, then use your feet to mimic the pattern of arrows you see on the screen. It may sound easy enough, but those arrows scroll by quickly -- and in complicated patterns. You will likely find yourself out of breath quickly, and most definitely looking pretty silly.
This particular version of the game features over 85 dance and disco songs from Dirty Vegas, Kylie Minogue, even KC and the Sunshine Band. While a portion of the song plays, videos or cheesy animation shows in the background, similar to Karaoke videos (unless you're in the beginner level; then you are given an animated dancer to mirror instead). While you dance, a strange voice will encourage you ("You are not an ordinary fellow!") or perhaps admonish you by asking if you have a cold.
You can play it alone, but it may be best enjoyed with friends and family. You'll be amazed at the fun you have laughing at yourself and each other, plus it may help kids (and shy adults) break free from some of their silly self-consciousness about dancing in public.
Word to the wise: Start off with the "Lesson Mode." This will help your precision, and it will also teach you to look like you are actually dancing, instead of just stomping out of control all over the living room. If you are considering using this as a fitness tool, there is also a "Workout Mode" that will keep track of calories burned. You can set your own fitness goal (such as a specified workout time), and can even save your results in a workout diary.
The ignition dance pad is sold separately ($99.99 on Amazon), and you'll need two of them if you want to play against friends simultaneously (or dance on two pads yourself).
