The good stuff

  • Educational value:

Players engage in teamwork to achieve quest objectives, providing an opportunity to learn online etiquette.
  • Messages:

Hundreds of available quests have various themes, but most involve helping someone achieve some desired positive objective, e.g. slaying an evil character.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

Fantasy violence only. No blood or gore. Use of swords, bows, and magic to defeat evil monsters.
  • Sex:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

Game is clean, but online interactions may be unpredictable.
  • Consumerism:

Free version displays advertisements at the top of the screen. Paid subscriptions are ad-free.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

Nothing explicit, although characters drink potions to restore health or magical power.

What Parents Need to Know

This review of Dungeon Runners was written by Dwight Odelius

Parents need to know that this is a massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) in which combat is an integral part of the gameplay. Players will attack and kill monsters using magical powers, and medieval weaponry such as swords and bows. Parents need to know that the online interactions can vary widely and that there are few restrictions on what people can communicate. While Dungeon Runners is free to play at a basic level, it offers an enhanced game experience to paid subscribers.

Families Can Talk About

Talk to your kids about the media in their life. We have more tools and tips that can help
  • Families can talk about online safety and etiquette with their teenage children. Why shouldn't you give out personal details online? Is everyone always who they claim to be? What effect does online anonymity have on people's behavior? Families can also discuss the value of teamwork and strategy. Are there opportunities in their daily life where teamwork might be better than going it alone? Dungeon Runners, like other fantasy MMOGs, may provide an in-road to discussion of fantasy literature and its historical sources. What exactly is Dungeon Runners satirizing?

More on Dungeon Runners

What’s the Story?

DUNGEON RUNNERS, a massively-multiplayer online game (MMOG) for Windows PCs, is set in a fictional medieval fantasy world with monsters and magical characters. Dungeon Runners is a role-playing game (RPG) in which the player is represented in the game world by a character of their own creation.

In Dungeon Runners, players guide their character through dungeons (maze-like environments) to fight against monsters and complete quests for in-game rewards and experience points. Experience points allow the character to increase in level and fighting ability, and thus tackle more challenging enemies and complete harder quests. Players meet other players in various towns in the game world and form teams to tackle more challenging objectives. Players communicate with each other via text or voice chat. Voice chat requires a paid subscription. Close

Is It Any Good?

Dungeon Runners stands out from other dungeon crawl RPGs for its wit and fast-paced game play. Those who have played and appreciate other RPGs will enjoy the satirical approach, although many of the game's jokes may be lost on younger players. Close

    Iffy iffy...

What I experienced in this game was other users on the chat talking about gay people. Not really appropriate, right? I think I just got unlucky when that happened though. So if you ply just be careful about the chat.

    Kind of Boring

I Played "Dungeon Runners" for about a week. There really are not that many skills to choose from. Gameplay gets old, and really only members can have all the cool stuff you pick up, It's as if they are mocking Free-To-Play players. Constant ads throughout load times are also a turn off.
