What’s the Story?

Reviewed by Jinny Gudmundsen

If your kids enjoying watching DVDs of Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street, and SpongeBob SquarePants, here is a way to make that passive experience into an interactive one. INTERACTV works with your DVD player and television. It comes with its own DVD and a special 10x7-inch controller into which you slip a special card. When you sync your DVD player to the InteracTV controller (by entering a provided code), kids can watch footage on the DVD from Dora the Explorer, Elmo's World, and SpongeBob SquarePants.

During the show, kids will be asked to answer questions by pressing on one of nine touch points on the controller card. The cards have recognizable shapes that correspond to what is shown on the screen. Kids will be asked to answer over 100 questions which randomize so the play experience is different every time. If children answer incorrectly, they get help from the DVD characters.

Because of the format of having nine touch points on a card, the interactivity is somewhat limited. Kids answer questions by matching the shapes on the card to what they see on the screen. Nonetheless, this is better than sitting passively watching television.

Add-on DVD titles are available showcasing Blue's Clues, Barney, Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street, and SpongeBob SquarePants. Each DVD is $15.
